Americans: Are there any consequences for you if you go to Cuba on holiday? |
Travel Info I'm sure that I read somehere that Americans cannot travel to Cuba due to the sanctions in place (apart from perhaps Business purposes). What would happen, if for example, you entered Cuba from another country like the UK. Would you have problems re-entering the US? Also quite a lot of Brits go to Cuba on holiday. Should they anticipate encountering problems entering America should they choose to go there in the future? Travel Tips Yeah we can get into a lot of trouble if we get caught. It wouldn't be REALLY bad trouble, but we'd probably have to go to court when we get back to the states. But that's if they found out. A lot of Americans go to a nearby carribean island, then travel to cuba from there. The Cubans don't care (they kind of look the other way if they see an american passport and they don't stamp it), but the Americans do. And if customs finds any cuban products (especially cigars) they will be taken when we get back to the states. America has a trade embargo on cuba that still exists from the Cuban Missile Crisis back in the 1950s. It seems we really hold a grudge when a country points nuclear missles at us. Oh - and as far as your other question - No you won't have problems getting into the U.S. if you've been to Cuba, unless you are flagged as a Communist party member or a member of some extremest group. Source(s): I've read about this on Frommers.com and other travel sites Other Travel Tips anyone but Americans can go to Cuba, and as far as I am concerned, I dont care becasue Cuba looks dirty... Americans do go to Cuba via Mexico or other countires. When entering the country many just ask for their passport not to be stamped. If you are caught you face up to 50,000 in fines and risk some time in jail. http://www.afrocubaweb.com/travelcuba.ht... Well if you are American and enter Cuba from a different country then America, they would see at the passport check that you are American and you couldn't enter the Country anyway. If you are British and travel to Cuba why should you have problems entering the US after wards ? I think it doesn't matter where you travel for your vacation. And who wants to travel to the Evil Empire anyway if you can go to other more interesting places ? Yeah it is difficult cause the US government doesn't recognize Cuba and they don't wanna work with Castro. My suggestion is don't go. |
