How can anybody justify taking a vacation in Cuba? |
Travel Info If you travel to Cuba: You are supporting a godless dictator You are helping to keep millions in poverty You are undermining US authority All in all, any travel to Cuba is illegal and immoral. Travel Tips all one needs to know about Cuba and the wondefull life its goverment provides its people is the fact that thosuands have died under desperate circumstances escaping the place......no one is trying to swim INTO Cuba, last I saw.... fo those who want to travel there, would you have gone to Aparthied South Africa ? Others LOL you are a JOKER. It's an interesting place and the rest of the world doesn't care if the US is still upset because Cuba threw the mob out and confiscated their assets. I know that's a gross simplification, but I have no problem with visiting Cuba. Hmm, actually they offered compensation at the declared tax value using 20 year bonds at 4.5%. For a confiscation that seems unreasonably good terms, but then I expect the American businesses were cheating on their taxes and had declared unrealistically low values. Hoist by their own petard as you might say. US Authority? What? Immoral? Who sold you that bill of goods. I guess I'm getting a demerit for this answer :D If the US hadn't spent the last 44 years providing Cuba with a bogey man to fear I expect Castro would be in a retirement home and we'd be taking vacations in their hotels. Bad strategy. George likes Cuba, at least he finds part of it useful. Interestingly they spend almost nothing on health care and achieve the same life expectancy as the US does. That's not a policy designed to make Castro popular with the big healthcare and drug companies. Travelling to Cuba puts money into the Cuban economy. Tourists purchase services and goods with strong foreign currency. That is supporting Cuban citizens, not "a godless dictator". The fact of the matter is that the Cuban people would have been far better off without U.S. embargos. The country faces shortages at times because it cannot always import goods, not because Castro feels like cutting off his countrymen. Finally traveling to Cuba is not immoral. Yes it is illegal for U.S. citizens, but that is because the American government has decided for its citizens that they cannot travel to Cuba. Otherwise peoples of other countries freely travel to the island to enjoy the rich culture and beautiful setting. I recommend seeing the country first and informing oneself about it before passing such judgements. |
