I'm going to Cuba soon... should I take out lots of Canadian $ and keep them on me, or do banks take interac?

Travel Info
I don't know if it would be a better idea to take out as much money as I think I'll need in Canadian dollars, and excehange them into CUC as I need them, or if there are any banks there that will accept my interac/eftpos card card as a way to take out funds. I'd rather not use credit card or keep huge amounts of foreign currency on me unless it's the easiest way. Will most banks accept a canadian debit card or will I have to use credit? I'm staying in a cuban home and not in a hotel, so I won't have a safe or anywhere to keep my money.

Celia that i don't know but what i know for a fact that no matter what kind of money you take you have to exchange for their new money call cuc or chavos you be able to pay with any other type of money over there

They don't accept debit cards, only creit cards or your hard earn Canadian dollards. You can change it at the bank and you get a better rate. Have fun Celia.

only american dollars arer wanted or traded use small bills 1, 5,10,notes banks are are probelmatic hotels take credit cards for their stays you are making a major mistake by staying someones home it is not a smart thing DO NOT DO IT
I would bring Canadian cash with you, but once you get to the Cuban airport you can exchange it for convertable Peso's.... they don't accept anything but peso's. They no longer take American and i would get traveller cheques instead since you don't have a safe to store your money in because if those get stolen then you can still get your money back. It cash gets stolen then you are screwed.
Most banks will only take your visa and that is how you get an advance. But you will need your passport for that. And there are very few banks in Cuba. Don't forget that you will need 25 peso's to get out of the country, it is a tax that you pay at the airport on your way home. So convert that when you get there and keep it with you, just don't spend it. The best thing to do is put that with your passport and return ticket.

Hope you have a great time. and if you haven't been there before you bring some kind of gas and diarrhoea medicine with you like Imodium cause u will need it.
I went to Cuba in Octoer for my honneymoon.
