Does anyone know anything about casas particulares in Cuba?

Travel Info
They are the private houses citizens of Cuba rent out to tourists. Would like to know if this is a safe way of staying in Cuba, as it is apparently the cheapest? Thanks!

Travel Tips
Casa particulares are cheaper and in some of the provinces be a better option than hotels. If you want to get close to Cuban life then this is a good way of doing it. Make sure you are in a genuine Casa they will have a blue triangle on the door and you will be required to fill in a register with your passport number. Also find them yourselves if you allow a tout to take you there you will in cure an extra charge which the owner will pay to the tout. Some of them will offer you meals as well a good cheap option often. The standards do change from Casa to Casa so have a good look around before committing yourself

Others
YOU WILL PROBABLY WANT TO STAY INA MORE PUBLIC PLACE NOT UNKNOWN PLACES CASTRO MIGHT BOMB IT
