Can U.S. citizens travel to Cuba? |
Travel Info How can a U.S. citizen travel to Cuba? Travel Tips The government of Cuba allows US citizens to enter Cuba, it is actually the US government that prohibits its citizens from travelling to Cuba by forbidding them to spend money there. The Bush administration is now being very anal about giving out official permits to go there, so you will have to go through a third country if you choose to go. Do not use Canada or the Bahamas. There are plenty of travel agencies that can get you into Cuba for 30 days on a tourist card via Cancun, Mexico City, Montego Bay and Kingston in Jamaica, Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, the Cayman Islands or other central American countries. You will have to ask Cuban customs not to stamp your passport, and they usually won't. Also, you cannot bring back anything from Cuba that could identify your trip there, since if US immigration finds it they can alert the Treasury Department, who will probably fine you for the travel. When re-entering the USA, there is a customs form that will ask you where you travelled. Customs agents will usually also ask you this when you re-enter the US from whatever third country you decide to use. It is a felony to lie on either the form or to the officer, but I do know that many Americans do. If you admit you went to Cuba, then you may be fined. I would speak to a travel agent specializing in American travel to Cuba via third countries unless you qualify for a US government permit. I've listed some websites below that may be able to help you. http://www.cubalinda.com http://www.cubatravelusa.com/ http://www.travelcuba.net/ http://www.tropicaltours-ja.com/... http://www.emelytours.com.do/index.php... http://www.allwaystravelling.com/index.p... Others Officially, as U.S. citizen, you're allowed to travel to Cuba, but you're not allowed to spend dollars there. Wait few more months, Castro is about to go. Yes !!! Wife is Cuban Why not it has not been declared a no go zone to anybody. There is a travel restriction for US citizens not to mention the US embargo on trade. US citizens may be allowed to travel there if you get a license. Please check the website listed on my source. |
