Just back form Cuba, is it normal to have and upset tummy? |
Travel Info I returned from one week in Varadero on Saturday. Since Sat evening I have had an upset stomach and the runs. I didn't drink the water or any alcohol and didn't eat much as the food wasn't great. Is it normal to have a mild tummy upset on returning to normal food and water? Travel Tips You sound just like me when I've gone to Cuba , my stomache holds nothing and it's pretty embarassing when you're sitting on the toilet , and the whole house can hear you. I'm Cuban born in the U.S. and even I have gotten sick , I'm a big guy and lost 15 lbs once on a trip to Cuba. Traveling to Cuba for me is a lifestyle 360 , different food, more exercise than I'm used to and Party Party with less sleep than usual. I blame the food and the travelling , seems that I'm not use to all the fiber rich foods and little sleep during travel doesn't help, In Cuba Guava fruit is excellent way to stop the runs, I believe your symptoms are very common , you'll get better within a week , if not take the common Over The Counter stuff and if no improvement see a Doctor. Source(s): Personal Experience , 4 Trips to Cuba. Other Travel Tips It's not uncommon. Starve yourself for 24 hours - no food AT ALL - and just drink water, hard though that may be. For the following 24 hours, eat bland foods such as plain rice, plain meat, toats etc. If that doesn't cure it, see a GP or pharmacist in case you have picked up somethign more serious. 24-hour starvation cures most travel-related stomach upsets though. I lived in Cuba and I travel many times I always got food with Salmonella so I would advise you to go to the doctor and next time you go back to Cuba just eat food that you can prepare yourself purchasing the products from the Supermarket I did that and then I had no problem I travel many times Since you didn't have the symptoms while you were IN Cuba, it's as likely that something you ate on the plane got you as anything else! But yes a change in diet of any sort can upset your system. I've been to Cuba many times and eaten in hotels, restaurants, homes, and even food stands in small towns, and never had a problem, but I always take pepto-bismol and immodium just in case :D It is pretty common to get an upset stomach when travelling. It is easy to get food that is not cooked the way you are used to. |
