Going to Cuba soon after many years, Is the American dollar still valued by the average person there?

Travel Info
Now the curency has changed and I am not sure of the status if the average Canadian visiting and if I use American dollars for tips etc. is the status quo still there

Travel Tips
Euro is better, because you get more in return with the Euro currency than with the US dollar.

no I would take Euros now there more likey to keep there value
I think you have to buy cuban dollars..
You definitely want to take Canadian with you unless you are European...to me it seems like a waste of time if you exchange into Euros and then into CUC. The Canadian Dollar is worth about $0.77 CUC when I was there in December, but like any currency, it can fluctuate daily. If you exchange from American, you will receive a 10% surcharge, so stick with Canadian.
Michelle is right.. take Canadian dollars. You have to change them into convertible pesos when you get there anyway, and there is a surcharge on US dollars. For tips, use the convertible peso. If you take traveller's cheques, make sure they are Thomas Cook and not American Express :) Lately there have been significant surcharges applied to credit cards as well, so try to avoid using them. Hope you have a great trip :)
