What exactly is the reasoning behind US Citizens not being allowed in Cuba? |
Travel Info It seems Cuba would welcome us and our money but the US wants to punish us- aren't a free country? But I can't visit where I want to? Travel Tips Main reason is that Castro doesn't want to be a puppet of the U.S. govt. who tries to control and dictate their policies to other countries. Communism is no threat noe and I don't think it really was much of one; it was all a political hype to pacify the U.S. citizens and to justify our politicians action. Communism is not all that much worst than capitalism. Many people in the U.S. need their lives controlled; made to work, how many kids they can have, harsh criminal punishment, etc., etc., etc. Capitalism makes one complacent and will be our downfall in the future. Telling us what country we can or cannot go to is a very communistic trait. So whats the difference! The people in Cuba are great, nice, hardworking, family orient, etc., its just the politicians that mess it up and cause a hardship on the people. It's our country that forbids it for most of us; Castro wants our tourism. In 2004 about of U.S. tour operators & Travel Agencies met with Castro about tourism there. They had to go thru the back door, via Cancun, to get there. One that went is an acquaintance of mine. At the same time, I went to Cuba 'legally' on a 'people to people' tour, same as any tour, via Miami, on Continental Airlines. Others No. But who would want to Go? Because Cuba is a communist dictatorship whose leadership has, proportionately, killed or exiled more of its citizen than any other nation in history with the possible exceptions of Nazi Germany and the Khymer Rouge in Cambodia. The American government hoped, and continues to hope, that by placing economic pressure on Cuba they can effect a change in the Cuban government. This, of course, hasn't worked, and isn't likely to work, because most of the countries of this world, including our so called friends and allies, don't really much care about how many Cubans have been murdered by the thuggish Castro government and continue to trade with them. The travel restrictions are part of the economic embargo that the U.S. has had against Cuba since the 1960s. Communist Cuba has been thought of as an "enemy", even though there are many "friendly" nations that are more of a threat than Cuba ever has been. Over the years many Americans have gotten around the travel ban by making arrangements to fly from either Canada or Mexico. That would be harder to do these days, since you now need a passport to return to the U.S. from those countries. It would not be impossible, however, to ask the Cuban officials to place your visa on an insert in the passport rather than in the passport itself. Old forgotten grudges that were left unintended and left to fester. Travel restrictions were implemented by the US government. Indeed the Cuban government is more than willing to accept US travellers and the money the want to spend. To comply with restrictions placed by the US government, generally a US Citizen must not use a US Passport to travel to Cuba and must not spend money whilst in Cuba. There are exceptions outlined in the law for certain educational, religious, and cultural exchange purposes. Other exceptions exist for diplomatic or journalistic purposes as well as for persons visiting relatives. The U.S.A. have had a travel ban and an embargo which have been found to be illegal by the U.N. The U.S.A. has been trying to enforce their policies on this country,and since they can't, they use an economic embargo to try to stir up a division among the massess.The massess are not assess and they see through that crap. |
