Whats it like in Cuba? My daughters are going to Havana in April, is it really like being back in the 50s?

Travel Info
My daughters are very keen on going to Cuba but it seems a strange destinaton to me. They say it is a unique because of the trade embargo imposed in the 50s and things are much the same there now as they were then. Is this true - what else does it offer. Clubs, dancing & music?

Travel Tips
Cuba, despite the negative image the u.s. gives it, has a very high standard of living. Their education is by far one of the best in Latin America. What people lack to do is look at both sides. Cuba has beautiful architecture, and a preferred spot for tourists is Habana. The night life is amazing there, clubs, restaurants, china town, street performers, a lot of entertainment. The only thing that reminded me of the american 50's era when i was down there were the cars.

Others
No, they are not going to feel like they have been taken directly back to the 50's but they will definitely see a lot of cars from that era & old buildings. The people to me are the nicest part about the Cuban experience. They are very kind, caring people. Cuba has strict laws about bothering tourist and we all have felt very safe there. There are lots of clubs to go dancing & markets to shop for present to take back home. Varadero has the best beaches in Cuba. They should check out the Tropicana show while in Havana. You go for the evening. It starts with a supper and a bottle of rum. Lots of singing & dancing. They have mini lights strung in the trees & the musicians sit up in the trees. You get so into the show you don't want to leave, truly magical! The costumes are incredible! A must see experience!
I just came back from Cuba on March 4th. I went with my best friend for our Spring Break. It was AWESOME! The 24 hour bars are KEY! The Clubs are FANTASTIC! If they're staying in a resort, the beach is usually BEAUTIFUL! I had the BEST time it Cuba... but that may be due to the fact that I hooked up with a guy from Montreal, and we had as my friend calls it "The summer blockbuster" kind of night, it was romantic, and ended with sex on the beach under the moon light... AMAZING. For ppl who say it's overrated, obviously didn't do it right. But that was just my experience. I stayed in Veradero. Havana was nice, beautiful architecture, good prices on cigars if you're into that. I reccommend touring it yourself. Rent a moped and just explore! It's so much more adventurous that way! I hope your daughters have a wonderful time!
