It is primarily a gay district, but good restaurants and large clubs. Many straight people venture there because it is so much fun and always activity. Lived there; experience ~Six Flags Over Texas~ Spend some time in the West Village. Lots of great restaurant, bars, movie theater. It can be romantic and fun. If you live in North Dallas, you can go to The Shops at Legacy. It is the same type of venue. And there is also Highland Park Village, if you would like to spend more.
