Husband and I live in Dallas area - know where we could drive to? |
Travel Info for the Thanksgiving holiday? We don't have a bunch to spend but want to go somewhere - we like to hike, stay at cabins or bed and breakfast places, and generally enjoy the scenery. Anyone have any suggestions of where we can go and what we can do ?- we can go to surrounding states, too. Thanks for your help! Travel Tips If you like the outdoors then go to SE Oklahoma, Beaver's Bend area. It is beautiful! Lots of pine trees, good trout fishing, wonderful views, abundant hiking, cabins on the Mountain river or on Beaver's Bend lake. The cabins on the river are wonderful! Some cabins come with a canoe and mountain bikes too!http://www.riversedgecottages.com/... If these cabins are too pricey then do a search for - cabins, Mountain Fork River, Oklahoma. Others Take a last minute cheap flight to Mexico. You should be able to snag something for under $100 and then find a good deal on a hotel. palestine texas Try staying at a park that rents cabins: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us. They're usually very reasonable. Also, you could go to Turner Falls in Okalahoma if you are outdoorsy, I think they have places to stay. Enchanted Rock State Park in Fredericksburg is wonderful that time of year. Or, go to Big Bend and do the National Park scene. Pick a place and try Priceline's Name your Own Price for that city to book a hotel (I have had fantabulous luck with this). There are so many great places to see in Texas, as well as Ark, Ok, and NM as far as nature goes. If you like the forest, try the Piney Woods: there are several national forests in Texas as well as a couple of state parks that a way. 4-5 hour drive I think to Eureka Springs, AR or Hot Springs, AR--Both great for hiking and B&Bs. That time of the year it would be beautiful!! Always wanted to go to Big Bend National Park. Check it out....heard it is an amazing place. http://www.nps.gov/bibe/ Vickburg, MS is about 8 hours away and has lots of history and beautiful B&B's. Jefferson, TX I hear is beautiful. |
