I lived in Wisconsin & Illinois all my life and had to drive in snow and ice. For the majority of the time, I only had front wheel drive and it worked just fine. 4 X 4 will not help at all if there's ice.

As long as you slow down, give yourself more space between cars and pay attention, you'll be fine in those conditions regardless of the vehicle.
