Bad parts of Big D? |
Travel Info what parts of downtown dallas are the bad parts, ive lived most of my life in this stupid redneck suburb town and am seriously really sick of it. I just wanna know the bad parts of Dallas so i dont move into a messed up neighborhood, if anyone could answer that please answer it by street names, Ex: lemmon ave, mockingbird, S. Lamar thanks, leslie Travel Tips I also live in a Dallas suburb (not a redneck one, though), and I feel really creeped out in Deep Ellum (Elm Street, east of Central Xpressway) and Oak Cliff (near I-35). Anything south of downtown is pretty shady, downtown is nasty, but uptown (north of Woodall Rodgers) is nice. It's very hip & trendy, and a good place for yuppies. Others I agree. South of downtown, south of I-30 and anything on the northern edge of I-30. Some parts of East Dallas are somewhat shady. Stay in the nice apartment complexes if you are moving into an apartment. And I mean NICE as in expensive, otherwise, you may hear someone beating their wife next door the night after you move in. Yes, that was my own experience. My recommendation would be simply to look around you. There are parts of West Dallas, south Dallas and urban East Dalllas, and some areas in the suburbs like Garland and Mesquite that are very bad, but many areas that once were horrible are now "in transition" back to urban chic. Many of the streets run for miles and miles so it's impossible to identify by streets. By bad, I assume you mean crime-ridden... Agree with the other posters to a point. Fact is, Dallas is either #1 or #2 in the nation for crime, so it's all relative... There ARE nice parts of Oak Cliff along with the really bad ones. Deep Ellum is a night spot, and is overrun with partyers after dark. It's actually pretty safe, though, and if you like nightlife and cool urban lofts, it's a good place to consider. South Dallas, Cockrell Hill, West Dallas (by Bachman Lake), Pleasant Grove are parts of town that have serious crime problems along with blight. Fair Park can also be a bit rough. Hot spots: Uptown, old East Dallas along Ross & Live Oak, Quadrangle area (McKinney & Pearl), lots of new high rises going up near downtown, too (along Maple, Fairmount, Cedar Springs). Old money, nice neighborhoods in Park Cities, Lake Highlands, Lakewood. If you like fixer-uppers, look along Munger and Columbia Ave. Beautiful old houses needing some love. None of these are absolute, as are those of the previous posters. Each neighborhood has ups and downs. You just need to decide what you're really after. |
