I'm originally from Chicago and was shocked to hear that Dallas gets snow. Most of the time though, the Dallas "snow" is actually ice. The reason why they supposedly "shut down the city" whenever it snows is due to the fact that it's not actually snow but thick layers of ice. It's impossible to drive on the streets when they are iced over.

When it does snow, it lasts for almost a day but then quickly disappears. It can get cold in Dallas during the winter months, however, wait a few days and it'll be in the 50-60s again real soon.

It's not currently snowing in Dallas. It was in the 70s yesterday.

Last winter. It snows and has ice at least twice during the winter months. Lived there for 5 years.
