Recommend Good Neighborhoods in Dallas/Fort Worth Area?

Travel Info
I will be relocating to the Dallas Fort Worth area in a week, and I need to know a few good neighborhoods to look for housing. I am looking for a house that will take a dog in a decent neighborhood to rent for a few months. Any suggestions?

Travel Tips
It would help me to know what price range you are looking for. I have been here all my life (almost 50 years) so I am pretty familiar with the different areas. Of course the duplexes and condos are much less and you can still be in a good area. The North Dallas Area (Addison) is a pretty good, affordable place to stay. Lots of nightlife nearby. Richardson and Plano are nice areas to be. The crime rates are really low, but to rent a house would be around $1000 - $1500, at the least. If you need to only stay for a few months, I would suggest going to the Craigslist website and maybe just renting a room. You can get into a really nice neighborhood and pay much less doing it that way. Plus you wouldn't have to have a long lease or hassle with utilities, etc. at most places. Frisco is about 30 minutes North of Dallas and you can stay in a "super nice & popular" area for about $500-600 if you rent a room from someone. These cities are right near the tollways so you can commute easier. The traffic is really bad in DFW, so beware.....

Arlington is also a very popular area, especially with the younger crowd (college area). It's right between Dallas and Ft. Worth and it has just about everything right there. You would need to pay at least $800 to get into a relatively decent neighborhood. Good luck! Source(s): http://dallas.craigslist.org/search/hhh?...

Other Travel Tips
My husbands family is from Garland TX, right outside of Dallas off of Central Exprswy. We lived there for several months and it was a nice city. Also, there is a smaller city about 20 miles form garland called sachse...its really nice and small ( im a smlall town girl) and very pleasant. Good luck with moving!
Collin County is a great place (Plano, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, etc.). I heard that my aunt had bought a place in Plano for nearly $160K. That is a lot of money. I am going to make my home in the Dallas area maybe within the next few years.
Yeah I lived in Arlington a long time it's pretty nice but not super expensive. Still, the commute can be pretty long and there's no public transit in Arlington, and its more affordable with a roommate.
If money is an issue, I might recommend Mesquite if you need to be near Dallas. If you need to be near Fort Worth you should be able to find something fairly inexpensive west of town -- in Farmer's Branch, White Settlement (creepy name but its okay) or anything else west of Fort Worth.
If your job is off I20 you might look at Mansfield or Duncanville.
I live in Far North Dallas, very nice area, great access to everything you want or need. Really where you live shuold be determined by where you work, I would suggest lving the opposite direction of the major trafic flows, to avoid gettng stuck in traffic on the way to or from work. as for short term living situations, the Dallas are is supersaturated with rental and apartment type properties, and almost all of them offer short term leasing.

P.S. When moving here, I suggest not getting Time Warner Cable or internet, they are the worst!!!! Verizon Fios, or ATT&T is what I would recomend. Just trying to save you some headache and time on the phone.
I live here!
