Fort Bliss? |
Travel Info My husband is getting back from Iraq towards the end of February. We have been notified that we are going to be relocated to Fort Bliss Texas. We have a 7 & 8 year old daughter and one more due in June. Is it a nice area to live in and does anyone know of any good neighborhoods to purchase a home? Travel Tips I live in El Paso, Texas which is where Ft. Bliss is located. Ft. Bliss is located just north of the city and is massive. It occupies tons of empty land and the base itself is huge. The post contains many facilities operated by AAFES such as the PX/BX, commissary, many restaurants and food courts, theaters, golf course, gyms, hotels etc. Really you can find many of the things you would find in any small, urban city inside Ft. Bliss. I am not sure if you are considering living on or off base, but Ft. Bliss has plenty of new housing for military families right on base. Schools are also available for your children on or off base. Ft. Bliss is near the Northeast of El Paso and a lot of military families choose to live in this part of the city. I personally find the Northeast to me an ok part of town, but if you are searching for great neighborhoods with virtually no crime then the Westside or Far Eastside would be ideal. Many wonderful and exceptionally recognized schools occupy the east and west sides of El Paso. And either side is only a 15-minute drive or so back to Ft. Bliss. My father worked for AFFES and is now retired, but like you, we were transferred to El Paso in 1995 while I was still in high school and I have loved it. By younger brothers and I are all now graduated and pursuing college and careers. El Paso/Ft. Bliss, which has a population around 700,000 offers a diverse culture. The city is predominantly Hispanic, many of which are from Mexico and now are American citizens. Most of the Hispanic people you come across do speak English despite what you may hear from others. El Paso is a border town so Juarez, Mexico lies just across the Rio Grande River. Many people has misconception above living so close to Mexico and are lead to believe El Paso may be unsafe, but in actuality El Paso is one of the safest cities in America for it鈥檚 size. Many Americans of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds find it entertaining and enjoyable for a quick trolley trip to Juarez for food, shopping and the nightlife There are many area attractions such as the El Paso Zoo, Western Playland, Wet N' Wild and if you are up to hike you can visit McKelligon Canyon or the Franklin Mountains, both located in El Paso. The city also hosts many concerts and performances throughout the year usually held at the El Paso Coliseum or Sun Bowl--home of UTEP (The University of Texas at El Paso). The job market is struggling, but with some education and training you can find yourself earning competitive pay. El Paso鈥檚 Financial District is booming and seeking highly motivated professional workers. I hope this has helped you in your quest to learn about Ft.Bliss, Texas. We welcome you. Source(s): 28-year old living and working in El Paso, Texas since 1995. (Except for school and job opportunities I took briefly in Dallas.) Other Travel Tips Better google El Paso. You have my condolences. You can check it out at bliss.army.mil for yourself. Of course, I would still listen to folks who have been there. |
