What is there to see and do in Dallas? |
Travel Info I am getting into Dallas on the 15th of April and flying out again on the 18th. I was wondering what tourist attractions and good disocunt shopping there was to see and do in Dallas. Travel Tips 1. As the others have suggested, albeit not seriously, go see the spot where President Kennedy was shot (Daley Plaza, near downtown). The school book depository floor where the shots reportedly came from is now a museum devoted to that incident. 2. Go up to see South Fork Ranch (less than an hour's drive north of downtown). That's where the exterior (and some interior) scenes for the TV series "Dallas" were filmed. It's now a tourist site. 3. Go to the West End (near downtown ) to enjoy food, drink and music. 4. Drive over to Fort Worth (45 minutes away) to enjoy the wonderful, lively and safe downtown area and the western revival area on the North side. See the stockyard area and Billy Bob's, the largest western honky tonk in Texas. 5. Factory outlet stores are located in Denton, about 45 minutes north. Others Steer clear of Dealey Plaza if you are in an open top car. the grassy noll As far as discount shopping there is a discount mall in Allen, Allen Premium Outlets. Also go to Harry Hines and Royal for the Asian discount shops. For some window shopping hit Northpark or the Galleria. Tourist attractions depend on what you like. The 6th Floor Museum, The Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas World Aquarium, Fair Park (The Women's Museum, Museum of Natural History), 6 Flags might be open, the Ft Worth Stockyards, if you go to a zoo go to Ft Worth. Have you ever heard of the movie "Debbie does Dallas?" Be sure and bring a second shooter You will need a car. It pretty easy to navigate. Its not a "train or bus" city. Have fun! Museum- The Kimble (Dallas/fort worth) Has a Monet/ Impressionist exhibit. Dallas Zoo is way cool. There is NO smoking in the food places and some of the bars. The Galleria is pretty and has great stores, but you won't get out of a store/shop for under $200 per item at most of them. The Aveda Spa is wonderful and Dermatological has an institute there and its really incredible. Unless you have a "tax permit" the shopping at market is "so-so" at best. I go to New York, and I live only hours from Dallas, if that gives you an idea. Be ware that at night, its not a safe place to walk around, not matter the "high end" part of town you are in. [ what the tourist agency won't tell you. There are a lot of prisons just outside the city and being a "hub" airport, many "seedy fellows" wander around there.] |
