Where is the ideal place for a recent college grad to live in the Dallas, Texas area??? |
Travel Info I just graduated and will be leaving North Carolina to work in the downtown Dallas area. I have never been there so I wanted to know where's the ideal place for a young man (23) to live. I will be alone and only have $45,000 a year to work with and I don't know how far that goes in Dallas as opposed to here in North Carolina. I want to be somewhat close to downtown to avoid long trips to work but a reasonable commute is ok. Also, I don't want to live where there's too much crime. It doesn't have to be the greatest place because It's not like I'm raising kids or anything....I just want a safe and affordable environment for myself. Any suggestions??? And please be specific because I have no knowledge of Dallas or the surrounding area just yet. Thanks Travel Tips There are several areas of Dallas you should definitely avoid. If you don't mind a small commute, you should check for housing and/or apartments in the towns of Desoto (15 miles), Midlothian (25 miles) or Waxahachie (25) miles. All three are nice smaller towns with reasonable apartment and housing pricing. On your salary, and being single, you might want to check into the apartments in downtown Dallas. The Downtown area is enjoying a resurgence with apartments, lofts and condos. Areas to avoid in Dallas (in my opinion) would be the South Dallas area, the Oak Cliff area and the North Dallas area. The South Dallas area and the Oak Cliff area have been plagued with Gangs and the areas are just not safe for anyone. If I were you and didn't know the area, I would contact realtors online, alot of them handle rentals and check out the available market. Any reputable realtor would advise you on areas that are unseemly. Others Try the Interurban Building at 1500 Jackson Street,Dallas , TX 75201 . Phone:214-761-1500. Go to this link to see the map with other nearby complexes as well: http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/tx-... My advice: Stay at an extended stay hotel for a few weeks while you're getting acquainted with the area and having the opportunity to look at a few apartment complexes before you select one and sign the lease (from 6 months to a year). For an extended stay hotel near downtown Dallas, check out : Extended Stay Deluxe Dallas - Market Center 2979 N. Stemmons Fwy. Dallas, TX 75247 Telephone: (214) 630-0154 Fax: (214) 630-0197 DMC@extendedstay.com or Extended StayAmerica Dallas - Greenville Ave. 12270 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75243 Telephone: (972) 238-1133 Fax: (972) 238-1725 dri@extendedstay.com Try Addison Circle, or West Village. Maybe even uptown on McKinney Ave where the nightlife is! Stay closeby. Dallas traffic sucks. See if you can afford Uptown, which is a pleasant Walk or trolley ride from downtown. Also look at the Lincoln Property Company properties - these are near a DART train station and will make commuting very easy. Addison Circle area is great but doesn't have any access to public transporation. If you can live somewhere where you can park your car and take the bus/DART train, you will save enough to pay more rent. |
