Is the area in Dallas, TX around the American Airlines Center a safe place to stay overnight?

Travel Info
I am planning to stay at the Ramada on Market Center Blvd for one night in June. Would that be a good idea? I don't know the city at all, am only passing through and seeing a concert there.

I would be taking a bus out the next morning, so if the area by the bus station downtown is a better idea, let me know, but in my experience, most areas in big cities where the greyhound station is are usually not the safest at night.

If you're from or have ever been to NYC, could you compare this area to one in NYC for me? I would know for sure what I am dealing with that way.

Travel Tips
Take a look at the Hampton Inn in downtown dallas. It's about $150 a night and would be close - within walking distance if you don't bring much with you - to both the bus station and the American Airlines center. The Ramada on Market Center could definitely require a taxi ride to both places so you might be better off paying a little more for the hotel.

You are right the bus station is NOT in a great neighborhood and has lots of homeless people milling around. In the daytime it will be safe for you.

Dallas is so different from NYC (nobody lives downtown and there are very few street level businesses) that the area cannot be compared. The Hampton is a chain I've had very good luck with and it is near the west end, which is a touristy area.

Others
That area is quite safe, but it is adjacent to rougher areas. But the immediate area around American Airlines is perfectly fine at night, and the Greyhound station isn't bad at all. I don't think it really compares to NYC really, because in Dallas after 5 oclock the downtown area is fairly lifeless unless you are in places like Deep Ellum or American Airlines when a game is there. If you can handle NYC, then downtown Dallas is nothing to worry about.
yes, thats a safe business oriented area. i wouldnt walk around at night anywhere in the city, but the hotels in that area are basically pulling in business related customers. If its toward the end of June, thats when the Dallas Gift Show is...it will be a mad house on Market Center Blvd.
If you have the money, the W Hotel is literally right next door to the AA Center, and would be extemely safe for a one night stay. Of course, the cost is quite a bit higher, but more convenient than Market Ctr Blvd.

Best of luck, and enjoy your stay in Dallas!
Yes, the area is fine. I used to drive a bus to Dallas from Amarillo and we (my fellow drivers and I) stayed at the Quality Inn on Market Center. You'll be fine.

The bus station is probably about a five to ten minute ride from the hotel, depending on the traffic. Plus (major plus!) you're also very close to the Dallas West End. Excellent place to check out the nightlife and some fantastic restaurants.

Also, check to see if the Ramada has a shuttle service. That'll save you a lot of money during your stay.
Enjoy your trip!

Best Wishes!
