Is Dallas overrated? |
Travel Info okay I live here in the area...and I went to the downtown and it seemed ghetto...not much ppl were there.. ...I mean there were some parts where there would be big buildings..and it was nice but as far as stuff to do not much...there r better places to go to do stuff...i say if u dont mind humid , nasty weather and into country activities...then its the place for u...but id rather live in california or florida... I think its a place if u want to just party at ppl's houses and if u have a family...where u dont need the perks and the great beautiful view Travel Tips Downtown is turning a little Ghetto.. But then again. Most cities do when certain people move here. Not that I鈥檓 BASHING a race mind ya.. It鈥檚 the mind set鈥? I have no idea why people are trashy鈥? In the 80鈥檚 you could drive even on 30 or 635鈥?NO GARBAGE anywhere!!!!! Dallas does have Deep Elum.. The West End, Thanksgiving square (Ever been to the underground mall?), the DMA, The Nasher (6 Cities around the world wanted that art), The Dallas Stars (Little north or Woodall Rogers, The Infomart (Which was given a document by Paris to commemorate the original that burned in Paris many, many years ago.) The Fountain is Italian marble from the same factory that built the one for the Paris Infomart鈥? Lower Greenville has a great nightlife鈥? The AAC now has the BIGGEST TV SCREEN in the USA鈥? Country activities? With about 40 rock bands per weekend??? July and August are really the only hot months with 100's June can get there but mostly 90's.... I myself don't RATE it... I just enjoy what it has to offer.. There are other cities with more, but heck. You can get to downtown in 15 minutes from the BURBS and it doesn't take mass transit to get you there... Plus after a certain time at night AKA 2am I'd rather be doing other things.. If ya know what I mean....Who was it that overrated it? You know they say that all hell needs is good people and water! ummm...there are plenty of things to do in Dallas and I disagree with it being "overrated". There is the new Victory Park area right by the American Airlines Center. There is the Arts District in the Downtown area with The Dallas Arts Museum, The Nashair(spelling?) Sculpture Center, an Asian Art Museum, etc. There is the Deep Ellum night club/music area right outside of Downtown. There is McKinney St. that is right before Downtown, which has plenty of bars and unique restaurants, yes even the Hardrock Cafe. There is the Cedar Springs/Oaklawn area right outside of Downtown with plenty of bars and night clubs. There is West Village off of Central Expressway (highway 75) going toward Downtown with plenty of bars/restaurants/shopping and other unique places. There is Mockingbird Station right off of Central Expressway going toward Downtown with bars/movies/shopping/clubs/res... There is Highland Park Village with bars/movies/restaurants/shoppi... There is Lower Greenville (on Greenville Ave.) with tons of bars/restaurants/shopping/nigh... clubs. There is the Arboretum near White Rock Lake. These are just a few things I thought off the top of my head. There is plenty of things to do in Dallas. My guess is all you did was quickly drove around the high rise buildings downtown and left. How do you expect to find anything that way? Research online and ask around! Dallas is a huge city, it's going to offer plenty of things to do. I have lived in Dallas for a long time. Dallas is only overrated by the people that live in Dallas or have never been outside of the Texas/New Mexico area. If you visit anywhere outside of Dallas but not near the other major Texas cities like New Mexico, they talk of Dallas as if it is some sort of Mecca for style and fashion. The whole Texas pride thing makes people talk about how great the city is, however, most of them that say those things have never been outside of Texas. I'm originally from Chicago and I travel to major cities across the country on a regular basis for my job. I can tell you why Dallas is not one of the higher rated cities...their downtown area. When Dallas was first created the downtown area was booming, however, during the mid to late 1900's, everything moved out towards the suburbs. There are plenty of things to do out in the burbs that cost money, however, their downtown area is a wasteland on the weekends. That was one of the first things that shocked me when I moved here. In Chicago and every other major city, people take public transportation to the downtown area on the weekends. They shop, eat out, view the museums, etc. In downtown Dallas, it shuts down on the weekends for the most part. They have a couple of museums that are substandard compared to even Fort Worth. The Aquarium is terrible and not worth the money to enter. You can get upset at that comment all that you want but if you'd ever visited an aquarium somewhere else, you would agree. The public transportation is also below average. In cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, or even Boston, you can get anywhere in the city or the suburbs by using some form of public transportation. Not so with the Dallas area. I myself enjoy the Addison/Dallas area because I'm a young, single professional that enjoys partying and meeting women. Other than that, Dallas is nowhere near L.A., Chicago, or New York; which it so desperately tries to emulate but fails miserably. Yes it is overrated! There is no scenic beauty here and outside of the place where Kennedy was killed nothing unique about this place. Face it you can meet nice people anywhere. Any place has restaurants. Culturally this place is sorely lacking the museums are poor the Dallas Zoo is bad, and the Ft worth Zoo is way behind many other large cities. The Texas pride thing is really people who have been brain washed. As for the heat my opinion is if you need air conditioning its hot. |
