Travel Info As far as affordable living and jobs, what area in the DFW area is most ideal to live in? Travel Tips you can live in ft. worth and take the train over to dallas it really depends on what your definition of "affordable" and if you are still renting or if you're ready to buy a home if i was going to buy a home in a variety of ranges: $0 > $100,000 I'd shop in the "Kessler Park" area of Oak Cliff - which is in south Dallas but is really turning around and I suspect their property values will be going up soon it's near Steven's Golf Course or in East Dallas near white rock lake although that would be a bit harder $100,000 to $150,00 I'd shop around "Lower Greenville Avenue" (avoiding the McMansion streets) to the "East Dallas" area - to areas near Baylor Hospital, to the north of the hosp. those areas you'd be able to find a nice older prairie style house, probably for a DIY'er willing to do some work, but a nice historic area with also a steady climb in value $150,000 to 200,000 I'd still stay around lower greenville but get a less of a fixer Or the Oak Lawn area - the "gay" area of town, alot of nice real estate, a nice area $200,000 to $300,000 anything in North Dallas - inside the Hwy. 635 loop $300,000 to $400,000 ditto + Lower Greenville at $500K you could start looking in University Park - or go back down to Lower Greenville and look at the McMansions - alot of which are really nice I would flat out steer clear of Garland, Mesquite, Arlington, H.E.B (Hurst, Euless, Bedford), the 'mid cities' - - - actually Arlington was named one of the best cities in the USA to live in as far as amenities - it's just a ways away for a commute to Dallas commuting anywhere along Highway 30 is a nighmare - hence the Mesquite, Garland thing - and those cities are very very very amenity-less in my opinion - bland, and flat out ugly - alot of crime too, gangs etc feel free to ask me questions through my profile if you'd like more info! Source(s): I've lived here nearly 2 decades! Other Travel Tips Fort Worth I agree that Ft. Worth has lower housing costs. Cannot speak to jobs - think it depends upon what you do. Both cities have very high property taxes and insurance costs. I don't know any specific places, but I would suggest finding an area that has a dart station or is connected to the trinity railway express. Those would make it easier to commute to work, you wouldn't have to worry about traffic, and it's cheaper to buy a year long pass, than a tank of gas every few days. Best of luck in finding a place to live! Look at Frisco As far as affordable goes: Plano has all types and all $$$ of housing. University and HIghland Park are unbelievable high.....the closer to downtown, the more the cost....the farther from downtown, the better the cost. I'm fond of the Las Colinas area. It's pretty, new, rolling hills, and has easy access to every major freeway going in every major direction of the entire metroplex. Hard to beat for easy access to everything. But it is major family, suburb land. (which may be good or bad, depending on your lifestyle) Not so much: arlington, mid cities, garland, mesquite, DeSoto, grand prarie, |
