Travel Info
My husband may be relocating to Fort Worth Naval Base and I was wondering how the living is there? I already have seen that homes are very cheap there! And love that!! But how about taxes on stuff? Gas? Just basic cost of living it is cheaper all around??

Travel Tips
Good
-Cheap
-family oriented
-friendly
-one of the safest cities in the country
-overall, schools are good (compare to other cities and states)
-clean
-historical places

Bad
-changing weather(one day cold next day super warm)
-long distances between places
-can be boring (not much to do) just a few good museums, and some nice parks
-Very hot during summer (can reach 113)

Others
their cheap for a reason try to get a home in Arlington...
Gas is currently around $2.50 to $2.60 a gallon. Sales tax is a little over 8%. There is no state income tax. I don't know about real estate taxes in Ft. Worth but you should be able to get that information from a realtor.
generally, living in fort worth is cheap. but there are more expensive areas of fort worth and in the surrounding area. fort worth is part of the dallas/fort worth metroplex area and has so many opportunities for every part of your life. plus, fort worth is full of really nice people and is located within a day's drive to other parts of texas. when you get the chance, check out downtown fort worth's sundance square for a nice dinner and stroll the area. i just love being down there on a summer evening when live bands are playing out on the patios.
electricity is high, so look for energy effecient. Sales tax is rather high, but it goes, in part, to a fund to pay for extra police, which helps explain our low crime rate. I have lived in many places, but I chose to stay in fort worth. I hope you like it.
Gas is $2.65 a gallon and the price will go up when it gets even hotter & sales tax is 8.25%. My husband and I paid $124,000 for our house and it is 30 years old but it is built better that a lot of the new homes that are being built. Our property tax is about $300 a month and our electric is about $350 a month. If ya'll are planning on buying a house, look into moving to Edgecliff Village. It is it's own city in the middle of Fort Worth.
Fort Worth is a really nice area to live. It's a part of the huge DFW metroplex, but I think it's a quieter and much more laid back area of DFW. The people are nicer, real estate is cheaper, and you're only an hour away from all the amenities that a large city like Dallas has to offer - the upscale shopping, the professional sports teams, theater, etc.

Gas is cheaper in Fort Worth as compared to Dallas. It's about $2.60 or so right now. Electric is going to be higher, I live in an 1100 square foot 2 story townhome and my electric is about $200 in the summer and about $120 in the winter. Sales tax is higher, but there is no state income tax, so that's kind of the trade-off. Property taxes are high in some of the newer areas of Fort Worth, expect about $2800 - $4200 a year for property taxes.

Good luck with your move!
