Where is the best place to live in Dallas (or suburbs) with 2 young kids? |
Travel Info Where is the best place to live in Dallas (or suburbs) with 2 young kids? Travel Tips I think Frisco and McKinney are the best places to live with young kids in the Dallas area. There are lots of families in the area, top rated schools, plenty of playgroups, mom groups, and activities both indoor and outdoor for the whole family. The houses are very nice and there is a lot of new development. There are lots of kid friendly restaurants and places to shop. The crime rate is also very low. Plus both are close enough to Dallas that you can visit the museums or check out a concert. Check out www.aroundtownkids.com, www.mckinneytexas.org, and www.frisco-online.com. Good Luck with your search! Others Depends on your income. Highland Park is the ultimate area but it is really expensive. Next would be Southlake/Colleyville; then Plano. The area that is booming right now is Frisco. It would be good too but there is a lot of development going on. There are quite a few great suburbs in the DFW metroplex, it just all depends on how much you're willing to spend, where you want to be close to (Dallas, Ft. Worth, DFW Airport, etc). The metroplex is VERY large; in fact it is larger than the entire state of New Jersey, so you can see that your morning commute could take a while if you live on one side of the metroplex and work on the other. The Southlake/Colleyville/Keller area are very nice suburbs with excellent schools, safe neighborhoods and are about 10 to 15 minutes from DFW airport. They're also about 20 minutes to Ft. Worth depending on traffic, of course. They are, however, a bit far from downtown Dallas and the traffic going into Dallas from these suburbs is horrendous. (They grew too fast and the freeways didn't keep up) Plano and Frisco are considered the "Far North" suburbs of Dallas and are similar to the others I mentioned above, but they are closer to Dallas. The Dallas tollway offers a straight shot from these cities to downtown Dallas, but again, traffic is bad. (All these cities can be pricey though, so if you're looking for something a little cheaper, let me know) There are a lot of good areas, and the ones listed earlier are the newer ones. I suggest Mesquite, especially in the Creek Crossing area. There are reallly great schools out there, in fact one elementary school, Pirrung, is a blue ribbon, and all the schools it feeds into are great. But there really aren't any bad schools in Mesquite. It is a bit older, it had it's boom about 20 years ago, so there aren't any of the mcmansions, but in my opinion that's a good thing. It's also about 30 minutes east of downtown, and it's very easy to get into Dallas. The fastest was is by way of I30, but if that's backed up, there are a ton of back ways. I think it's a great place. I grew up there, and I love it even more after moving away. McKinney is about 30 miles out but it's a growing city. Plano is good too; it's closer to Dallas. McKinney or Aledo althought Aledo is more of the Ft. Worth area its a very very good school district! friends from McKinney and cousins go to Aledo |
