Is Dallas a nice place to live? I am trying to decide between Dallas and Indianapolis.? |
Travel Info Both have affordable housing prices. I have done a lot of research on Indy, but hardly any on Dallas. I am moving next week so any help would be appreciated. I will be buying a new home from KB Homes wherever I end up. Travel Tips I live in Fort Worth, about 30 miles from Dallas. I try to avoid going into Dallas if I can, because traffic is MISERABLE, especially in rush hour. But if you can put up with that, and the high temps and humidity of summer (frequently 100+), then Dallas is a fairly nice place, especially if you are moving into a new home. Others Wondering why you were considering both cities? I know both well, I live in Dallas now, but grew up in Indy. Josh has pretty much summarized it; bad traffic, high temps (100+) with high humidity, you have to drive everywhere. Public transportation isn't up to par as some of the other bigger cities. Right now the DFW area is booming big time. I live in downtown Dallas (so traffic is no biggie for me) and the equity in these places is going way up. If you do consider coming to Dallas or Fort worth, you may also consider other homebuilders (Fox & Jacobs, Grand, Highland, Woodhaven, Choice Homes); I'm sure there's a handful too. Unlike Fort Worth, Dallas is a big city with a big city feel... whereas Fort Worth is a good size city without the big city feel... Can't say much about Indy, other than it's probably cold... Dallas has an amazing amount of arts and culture, commerce, sports and entertainment in general to offer. Yes, Summers are hot. If you are able to minimize your commute distance, then you'll have more time to go out and explore the city. You can get much more house for your $$$ the further North you go. But if you wish to live IN the city, there are lots of great neighborhoods near downtown. Hope this helps! Try to live and work north or east of LBJ Freeway (I-635). There are many good areas around Dallas. One company, Raytheon, has a lot of employees in McKinney and Plano and inside Dallas city limits, also, where the traffic is terrible. I don't know anything about Indianapolis. |
