Has Dallas changed much and if so in what ways since the Dallas tv show ended in 1991? |
Travel Info as in the skyline, the people, society etc ...Dallas fan from Europe, never been to TX Travel Tips Well, I can tell you that there aren't any oil wells in Dallas and there never have been. You will also be hard pressed to find very many cowboys unless you go to Mesquite to see the rodeo or to Ft. Worth. Dallas is mostly a city known for it's high tech and telecommunications companies. Oh yeah and the over abundance of shopping malls, Baptists and conservatives. It's like any other city in the U.S. Big and sprawling with a lot of different people from around the world. Dallas is more than half minority population. Great variety. The summers are also brutally hot and humid. You won't find very many people outside then. They do have very good restaurants though. Others The TV show was very narrow in its scope and did not really show much about the real Texas. It was basically a soap opera. You can visit the set, South Fork Ranch, which is actually quite a ways outside of Dallas, I believe. Not everyone in Texas rides horses, drives a Cadillac and wears a cowboy hat. I live in Waco, about 100 miles south of Dallas. All I can really say is if you've never been to Texas, there's no way to explain it. The people here are different than anyone in the World. In a good way. Read all about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dallas... Dallas hasn't changed much. The traffic is more congested. The area about 15 to 30 miles north of Dallas has grown in population. You just have to experience the city. It is great, the people are great. In fact the whole metroplex is great. To answer you question, Only little bits and pieces of the TV show actually depicted what the city is really like. It is big, it is fast, and it is lovely, But hey, so is Fort Worth. There is an old saying that the difference between Dallas and Ft. Worth is this. All the yankees moved to Dallas and all the Texans moved to Foat Wurth. The whole place is lovely and so are the people. Come and see for yourself, it's worth the trip. Oh and if you want to see what the people on the tv show were really like.. be sure to visit BILLYBOBS at the stockyards in Foat Wurth. |
