I've only lived in an apartment at the time, but the prices were reasonably affordable, not much different from anywhere else I've ever lived. I'd assume the same would be for actually buying property since Arlington itself isn't a very big city. Pretty ideal if you want to live near a big city, though, and it has a nice park nearby for a lot of recreation activities.

Plenty of places to shop and eat, but I was pretty bored there myself. I didn't really know of much to do there, but, with a big city in either direction, there shouldn't be much of a problem for you in that respect.
Most residential and some apartments are nice, decent and relatively safe. As safe as anywhere else. Excellent hi tech jobs at hospitals and National Semiconductor(Arlington). The crime is mostly centered in the entertainment district. This is where most of the violent crime occurs. The area from E. Lamar to E. Abrams and from Hwy 360 to Bowen is littered with criminal activity. There are many run down motels with prostitution, drugs, thefts, aggravated robberies, armed robberies, strong arm robberies. In the same area there is a surplus of home burglaries. It is mostly the low rent apartment complexes and flea bag motels that harbor the dwellings of the criminals. Southwest Arlington is very nice, I built a new house there in 1998. The area by Lake Arlington is also nice. I would stay away from central and eastern areas of the city. Arlington is a great place to live if you are in the better parts of town. On the city's side, they are posting pictures of "John's" that get busted for soliciting a prostitute http://www.arlingtonpd.org/ just follow the links
I'm thinking of moving there in a couple of years myself, I love that area and the cost of living is sooooo much cheaper than it is here in Seattle.
