Dfw real estate & commuting questions? |
Travel Info Hi, we're moving to DFW sometime in Aug / Sept. Trying to find out about neighborhoods around Dallas that are affordable, nice houses, and have a decent commute on DART. We were thinking Mesquite or Garland. Any other suggestions? Travel Tips If you want to commute on DART, don't pick Mesquite because they are not in DART. Garland is in DART and has light rail so I would pick them. Others Look into Irving. I have lived there since 1994, and I love it here. carrollton texas, plano, texas, richardson, texas..... where are you commuting to on dart??? Garland is the place King of the Hill makes fun of in the cartoon. The creator, Mike Judge, grew up in Garland. He just changed the name to Arlen for the show. It's a pretty good description of the place. Mesquite would be a step or 2 below Garland. Hard to answer not knowing where you'll be working, etc. but the DART website has maps and more info that can help you get an idea of where you can live and still have good access. The train system goes north well into North Dallas (Plano) and connects with the Forth Worth system going west. The DART light rail is very nice, clean and efficient. DART.org Hard to answer without knowing more about you...but, personally Mesquite and Garland are not, well...cool...they are very red-neck. Irving, Grand Prairie to the west is also red-neck...Fort Worth area has the same kind of small town feel as these, but is not as redneck... Northern suburbs like Plano, Richardson, etc...are very white-bred upwardly mobile suburbia types...and the schools are excellent...same with Coppell near the airport. If you are more urban minded...metrosexual type...look into downtown, west village, knox-henderson, Addison or Lakewoodn ...a lot of things to do...bars, restaurants, theater, museums, etc...also, close to the Dart Rail...however, a little more pricey than most...but, again you pay for being in the desirable areas... I love Addison...it is just north of 635...it is the "closest" in suburb that you can have..the homes are newer..a 10-15 minute commute downtown, or the airport, or Plano, or White Rock Lake, etc..mostly young yuppie types or retirees...jogging trails, duck ponds, atheltic centers...the town is cool...only drawback is if you have kids...they go to the Dallas public schools...which suck...most with kids in Addison send them to private schools...if you want good public schools...you need Plano, Richardson, Frisco, Coppell, Southlake or Grapevine..most others suck |
