Texas USED to be rich from the taxes collected from local oil production, but that dried up decades ago. Now our #1 state revenue is federal money. Maybe the 'rich' reputation hasn't worn off yet.

Texas is not rich. There may be some rich people there, but Texas ranks 32nd among the states in per capita income as of 2004, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
