Must-see / must-do in Dallas, TX? |
Travel Info Must-see / must-do in Dallas, TX? Travel Tips I would start downtown first: -The Fifth Floor Museum. This is a museum about the life and death of John F. Kennedy and is located in the fifth floor of the former Dallas County School Book Deposatory at Dealy Plaza, where the gunman who shot the president is thought to have hid. The sixth floor is a space for traveling exhibits. -Nasher Sculpture Center. A beautiful exhibit space dedicated to modern scupture. In addition to it's in-door gallary, it has a huge area for out-door sculptures. The museum itself is a beautiful work of art. -Crow Asian Art Museum. It's free and it's right across the street from the Nasher. It's small so you can go through it in a short amount of time. -Dallas Museum of Art. Large museum, down the street from the Crow and Nasher. Some pretty impressive stuff, but it can be a bit dry and accademic. -Antares Resturant. It is on top of Reunion Tower attached to the Hyatt Regency in downtown (it is the big tower that looks like a golf ball on a tee and lights up at night). The entire resturant is circular shaped with huge windows and incredible views of the city. It rotates around the middle every hour, so in the course of a meal you get to see the entire horizon once or twice. On a clear day you can see to Ft. Worth -Dallas World Aquarium. I've never been there, but I hear it's really cool. -Meyerson Symphony Center. Check out the Dallas Symphony website for concert info. This time of year they're doing the "casual classics" series where everyone dresses casual. This $90,000,000 building by I.M. Pei is an architectural and acustical masterpiece. -Ghost Bar. On top of the W hotel at Victory Plaza. Get a martini with a view of downtown. The Victory Plaza area is in uptown, just north of downtown. There are a lot of high-end resturants an retailers in this area right next to the American Airlines Center where the Mavericks and Stars play. -Neiman Marcus. The original store. Here are some other places outside of Downtown: -Northpark Mall. Really high-end mall in Highland Park where rich people in Dallas shop. Nice restaurants, expensive clothes, big movie theater. -Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor in Arlington. Family amusement park and water park. -Science Place in Fair Park. Kid friendly place to take kids to learn about science (I reccomend the electricity show.) -Dallas Summer Musicals in Fair Park. They do a different show every week or two in Music Hall at Fair park. Really good shows. -The Galleria. Another huge high-end mall. It's in Far North Dallas near Addison. There is an ice-skating rink. Check out Ft. Worth too, you can take I-30 to get there in 30-45 minutes or take the Trinity Railway Express train: Bass Performance Hall (symphony, opera, ballet), Kimbell Art Museum, Modern Art Museum of Ft. Worth, Sundance Square (downtown, good food), Ft. Worth Zoo. Hope this helps.
