How can I (as a brit) get to drive a rickshaw through delhi whilst on hols there? :)?

Travel Info
it's an ambition of mine to drive a taxi/rickshaw through crazy indian traffic, and would love to achieve that whilst there in a few months time. Any ideas/advice on how I could fix it to do that? I have a uk driving licence.

Hello,
Are you a woman? Chances will further reduce.
Ideally to drive an Auto just having a driving license will not do. You have to have an Auto drivers license.

I would recommend you to befriend a rickshaw driver- Or pay him some money say Rs 1000/- for which he would be happy. But you dont offer yourself to pay, ask him if he would allow you and if he does ask him the money and then bargain if you find that high.
Also a word of caution- If you are a woman and try to befriend a rickshaw driver- he might even think you to be a -- umm hooker- So its a delicate thing and you can handle it smartly.

But for the sake of making your dream (crazy..:) ) come true, try doing this at night by wearing a pant and shirt and a khaki shirt- just like an auto driver. Let me know when you are in New Delhi and I will try to see if I can find something particular for you.

Cheers. All the best and have fun!!!!!!!!
Delhi is not the right place for this kind of adventure as traffic here is more or less disciplined and controlled except for some areas of Old Delhi where the traffic is chaotic. There you will not enjoy as you will not be able to drive through.
Lots of bigger vehicles like local buses run on Delhi roads and smaller vehicles like two-wheelers and three-wheelers often become victims of accidents. The best place would be in smaller cities like Agra,Jaipur, Varanasi etc. where it must be a real fun for you while driving through the herd of cows and other animals wandering on the roads and streets.
Hi,
My assumption your a lady... take a guy friend along for safety... ask a rikshaw fella if he could allow you to ride the rikshaw in exchange for money... simple..
But it is not that simple... driving a rikshaw is dangerous, it easily overturns, and it is not going to be simple driving through crazy traffic without good amount of practice... since you have a Uk licence try a taxi, safer and better to drive...
Have you ever been on a rickshaw in Delhi? I mean if you want to do that I'm sure you could just talk to one of the BAZILLIONS of rickshaw wallas in Delhi. I am a very well and road worn bicyclist and have been in many rickshaws in India, but I'd never want tobe in control in some of that insane traffic that I remember...it's pure chaos.
hold on girl. Delhi is not that tourist friendly for such activities. Yes u can pay the auto rickshaw fellow and use his auto but the traffic is so bad & fast that if u have a bangup then it can be fetal. My advice , if u want to try an auto then u should try in a smaller town with less traffic.
Well........buddy. legally you cannot. You need a taxi driver's license and permit to drive a rickshaw or taxi. If you want to risk it.........pay a rickshaw driver enough money and he will let you do it......but be prepared to pay the fines/insurance/any other costs that will come about.....Why do u want to indulge in such crazy ideas...Enjoy the country in the back seat....let the driver do the driving
