What are the plant life ( vegetation ) and animal life in New Delhi, India?

Delhi lies in the temperate zone with a semi arid terrain. Native vegetation is bushy 'Kikar' trees and desert grasses.
Native animals are the fox, the jackal, various snakes, scorpions etc. Not that much wild life survives :-)
Birds are varied from the common sparrows n mynas to exotic ducks that come to the Okhla Bird sanctuary along the Yamuna.

When 'New Delhi' was constructed trees from all over the world were brought in and planted along the roads. The criteria of selection was varied.. from the beauty of foliage and flowers to the amount of shade it offered or the fruit it bore.
