How do i reach shimla from Delhi?

I am reaching Delhi by flight on 18th and I need to reach Shimla by 21st. From ISBT can I take the bus? Do I need to do prior booking? Duration of the travel? Can I get A/C bus? Can anyone suggest a best way to do this?

there are many options of getting to Simla; with the Delhi heat, some routes may be crowded. I would recommend the following:

a comfortable Kalka Mail leaving from Delhi Main or the Shatabhdi expresss leaving in the morning; you can do the booking for either of these trains on internet to Kalka; this is on the foothills; from here; usually, you will be able to get the Simla bound train, that will take you through the picturesque mountain route. Other possibility is the shared taxis and shared Qualis and other vehicles. The train ride depending on which train your take (night train is about 6 hrs and the day one is shorter in duration) from Delhi to Kalka (Kalka is beyond chandigarh).

You can also get Buses in plenty from ISBT either to Chandigarh or better still to Simla on Himachal Bus transport or Himachal tourism buses as well.

Finally, you can also get possibly special A/c coaches from tour operators like Panicker's travels; ask them if they will let you do a one-way trip; call them at: 011-47000111

Himachal tourism runs Volvo, A/c buses from Delhi for Simla; get more details on their website:

They have A/c sleeper coaches to Manali (go throught Simla) for Rs. 1100/- and Volvo coaches for Rs. 825 and regular luxury buses leaving at 8 pm for Rs. 440. don't worry shimla is very near to delhi.
when you reached Delhi,just stay at one night in delhi
Next day you take a train to chandigarh (train name is Shatabdi).In morning 6:00 AM ,you will reached chandigarh at round about 10:30.
Take a bus from ISBT chandigarh 17 sec.Rugular bus service to Shimla...

You can take a bus from inside ISBT Kashmere Gate for your journey to Shimla. You may or may not have advance booking, depending upon your convenience, time, locating roadways booking office...etc.

Direct buses to Shimla by various roadways (Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Himachal) leave about every couple of hours. Alternatively you may board a Chandigarh bound direct non-stop bus (leaving every 10-15 minutes) and from Chandigarh take a bus to Shimla which again leaves Chandigarh ISBT every 10-15 minutes. You have option of AC/non-AC/Deluxe/Volvo buses. Direct journey by bus to Shimla from Delhi takes about 9 hours with 2-3 stop overs, via Chandigarh change over it may take about almost the same time.

If you wish to travel by train, take a train to Kalka - not Chandigarh. Chandigarh station is very inconvenient - transport wise, for onward connections. Visit Indian Railways website at http://indianrail.gov.in to find out most convenient train to you and its seats availability status. From Kalka, you can board the toy train or rail bus from the same station to Shimla or take a bus / per passenger cab from Kalka bus station, which is about 1 kilometer from the rail station. Journey by road to Shimla from Kalka takes about 2.5 - 3 hours.

You can travel by air also to Shimla from Delhi. Deccan Air and Jagson Airlines have flights on the route.

Best way depends upon your own suitability, time, budget, likings, accompanying persons.......
Ofcourse u can take a bus. It takes 5-6hrs. by bus. Another option is to take a train --Kalka Exp. from Delhi. If u decide to take a train then u'll need prior reservation.The train is in the evening and reaches Shimla in the morning. For exact timmings log on to -----Indian Railways.com
