Moving to Copenhagen - will we be bored ? |
Travel Info I'll soon be moving with my family from Asia to Copenhagen. Kids are in thier teens and we've lived in Asia (Singapore and Seoul ) for 8 years. Seoul is a huge busy, gritty, fun city - it never sleeps - what is Copenhagen like? I've seen pictures and it looks beautiful but after the expat existance and pace of life here in Seoul, the agressive business culture, the traffic, the bars - I'm worried that we'll really suffer culture shock ? Any comments? Please tell me that we'll love it .... Travel Tips Hi. Copenhagen is a fun place to be. It is definitely not like Asia, but you can never get bored. It is obviously a different culture and you will have a culture shock :) but when you get to see the beauty of the lifestyle, you'll love the place. I stayed in CPH for a long period of time and i never had time to say "what shall i do?" .. i had always lots of stuff to do and places to go, people to meet. and what I loved about the place is the schedule people make: they go to work, come home by 5-6PM, stay at home with the family /friends until 9-10 PM and at 11 at night they get out to party. there's nobody outside at 10 pm, but at 11 you'll get amazed to see how full is everything :) parties, clubs, restaurants, and during the summer, every spot . people do work :) and are serious nevertheless but the main thing is the people: they are very friendly, you'll love them... and one more thing you'll absolutely love is everything they do in design! everywhere you go, you'll see that someone thought about what is the smartest, easiest funniest way to do that thing. :) Good luck with your stay! Have fun! Others i live in Copenhagen YOU WILL NOT GET BORED trust me I don't think you'd be bored or shocked..although it depends what you like..if you're used to aggressive business culture I dont think you'll find that in Scandinavia..Danes espiecially try to be militantly modest, down to earth or self effacing..It can be boring if you sit inside an wonder why the weather is so dark but if you are outgoing..there are plenty of bars and clubs...Lots of cultural attractions if you prefer museums and galleries. I think you will find the people universally polite and educated/somewhat enlightened.. also its nice that you can almost expect that people know English. There is traffic and some days cars are even banned in the city center..but there are lots of effective alternative means of transports...a ton of bicyles. I think you can say its a more relaxed city than Seoul or Singapore also European and cosmopolitan/multi-cultural. If you have kids i'm sure they'll love it..and you too...if you are impressed by nightlife and people not going to sleep then you can say the city is very impressive.. there used to be a website called danmarkbynight.dk or .com with lots of weekend photos form parties and events I lived there and studied at Copenhagen University for a semester Copenhagen is a great place to be! There is plenty to do. Many sites to see and the people a great. I have been there several times. However, I have not lived there. The bike trail system in all of DK is great. Even in Copenhagen there are bike lanes to all points in the city. It will be very much colder than you are accustomed to. |
