Why do you have to stamp your ticket for the Copenhagen metro?

Travel Info
I don't understand what the purpose is of stamping the ticket in the yellow boxes. Thanks.

Travel Tips
hi there,
when you buy clipcard or punch card as tourists sometimes call it, you are buying 10 trips with public transportation - buses, s-trains and metro within the zone area indicated on the card. You usually have to clip twice for night buses and metro if you are traveling after midnight.
By clipping the card you are technically paying for the trip - thus avoiding a very nasty thing called "kontrol afgift" - a fine in the amount of 600 kr. .
the main problem not is that yellow machines are not as good as they used to be - they don't clip very well - esp on metro platforms, and that can be a bit annoying .
if you don't like the clip cards you always have an option of a weekly pass (195 kr - for 2 zones) or a monthly (30-day) pass (310 kr for 2 zones) - this gives you an unlimited number of trips with all the types of transportation within the zones indicated on your pass. In case you have this type of pass you don't have to pay extra in the night buses.
For a monthly pass you would usually need a photo (passport size), it's good enough if you print it yourself for as long as face is recognisable.
if you have any more questions regarding transportation or if you want to make a weekly or monthly pass, drop by any of the stations and i am sure they will help you out. Source(s): I work for DSB - Danish Railways

Coz ure supposed to pay for the transport that ure gonna be using?U cant expect it to be free can u?Also, when u stamp it, u can use the buses & metro, u cant board the bus/trains without stamping it.What are u? a freeloader??,dont be a cheapskate now..LoL..and if u get caught, ure gonna get a ticket for quite a heavy fine.U wudnt want that wud u?Stamping the ticket ,gives u a time and date which allows u to travel within the hour ( either by train or buses ) in the zone that ure in.Maybe u havent seen one of those "officers" yet..but if they catch up to u...then u'll know how it goes..LoL..Cheers! :)
