Should I move to Boulder, Colorado? |
Travel Info I am currently in Southern California. I want less traffic, cheaper housing, and friendlier people, without sacraficing city amenities - like theater and fine dining, ample jobs, and decent weather. Travel Tips I was thinking of moving to boulder too. If you've never been, it's a great city for outdoor enthusiasts. There is a two mile walking/running/biking/hiking trail that follows a river you can kayak/tube down. Clean and pretty and hippy city. Pearl street is the walking mall. Expensive apartments/houses, but cheap compared to SoCal, and since it's a college town, there's always cheap apartments somewhere. I wanted to go to Cali too, but it sounds so unreasonably expensive! Anyway, good luck! Check out the www.dailycamera.com or www.wikipedia.com for local news and stats. Oh - as for jobs, Denver is ranked the no.1 city for singles by www.forbes.com because of the hot job market and reasonable cost of living. There's a shuttle from Boulder to Downtown Denver daily. Good museums and stuff in Denver - and quick airport ride to the coast! Others I don't blame you for wanting to move from Southern California, just make sure you research the area you decide to move to before you move. That will help you make the best choice. I think you would be even happier in Denver. Boulder is great, but the cost of living is pretty high for what you get (this probably is no surprise since you would be coming from SoCal). I would recommend coming out on a weekend (flying into Denver) and spending a day in Denver and a Day in Boulder. Boulder is beautiful with lots of things to do (both outdoors and indoors). Be sure to walk along Pearl St. Denver is a "big" little city. They have all the major sports, the shops, the dining (there are some amazing restaurants in Denver... you should ask a question about that and see the responses!), the night life, the jobs, and the weather is perfect! I am a Colorado transplant, from the east coast, and have loved the 10 years I have lived in this wonderful state. Come out and visit, talk to the locals, as they are most of the times both friendly and informative, and decide for yourself. Definitely check out the 5280 link below. It is Denver's "things to do" monthly magazine. http://www.colorado.com/ http://www.5280.com/ http://www.denvergov.org/ http://www.ci.boulder.co.us/ Majority of theatre is in Denver, about 45 mins drive from Boulder. Boulder is a nice town, and costs about 1/2 that of popular California cities. One problem with Boulder is traffic. While you can get everywhere in Boulder by a car, its advisable not to. Parking sux and they are always doing summertime construction that fouls traffic to no end. The better choice in Bouder is to ride a bicycle. But don't fret, Boulder has Excellent bike paths and trails in the city. Consider Denver over Boulder if you would like a bit more metropolitan feel to your lifestyle. If you're looking to get away from it all, try a town on the western slope of Colorado - like Winter Park, Durango, Montrose, Grand Junction, Crested Butte, or Steamboat Springs. All of these are doing well these days and definitely get you into some beautiful country. I live in a suburb of Denver, work in Boulder, spend many meals and weekends in Denver.
