In which city should I book my hotel? |
Travel Info We want to visit Telluride, Aspen, Steamboat Springs, Pike's Peak, Royal Gorge, Rocky Mountain National Park, and any other interesting locations. Is Colorado Springs a good central location for booking the hotel, or would you suggest another area? We'd like for our "home base" to be scenic but in a town large enough where we can easily find a restaurant for dinner. Travel Tips Your plan is impractical if not impossible. The cities you list may appear close in the atlas, and may be close 'as the crow flies' but visiting some of these places as day trips from Colorado Springs would require upwards of 9 hours of driving. Plan a circle trip where you stay in one or two of these mountain resorts a drive from one to the next sightseeing as you go. Others I would suggest looking at hotels.com. You can type in your destination city and sort it based on attractions. You certainly can't base yourself in one town like Colorado Springs and make day trips to all the destinations you mentioned! They are all hundreds of miles apart and take a long time to reach because many are only accessible over windy and slow mountain roads. You'll need to plan an itinerary where you'll stay in four or five different places to make this trip work! Please get a good map of Colorado and actually measure the mileage, taking into account whether you're driving on interstate highway or two-lane back roads! Having toured the area, you will regret not staying at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs-it is beautiful and historic. We did not stay there but stopped by and walked through. It is a little more expensive, but you will have something to brag about. Google it and hope you try it for at least one night. It would be impossible to stay in one place and visit these towns. Colorado is a large state and mountain roads are not as fast as flatland (like you are used to) Please look into this further, the last thing we need is more tourists causing accidents on our mountain roads.
