How long would it take to get from Texas to Colorado by horseback? |
Travel Info How long would it take to get from Texas to Colorado by horseback? Travel Tips Since you can only travel on horse for about 8 hours a day, maybe 10-12 if you push it(which would be hard on you and the horses). At 3-4 mph which is walking pace, thats 28 miles a day, good time when you consider cattle drives were doing good if they traveled 10-12 miles per day. So at 28 miles per day, thats 31 days, or one month. You can get feed from towns along the way, but you will need either a wagon to carry it a decent quantity or several pack animals in addition to the horse you are riding.... (towns aren't exactly spaced out at one each 28 miles afterall... ;) Interesting facts.... 1860's: The Pony Express averaged nine mph over 25 mile stages, a fresh horse every stage. 1920: The first U.S. Cavalry Mounted Service Cup race averaged 60 miles/day for five days, carrying up to 245 lb. of rider and gear. Modern Endurance Rides: The 100-mile rides are run by the same horse and rider in under 24 hours-- but there are usually 8 vet checks, where the horse is required to rest for 30 minutes, as well as pass a health check. That's 4 hours spent resting; also, the rider may get off and jog with their horse partway. These horses are also in top condition, and must pass many vet exams. Like ,, where are you starting from in Texas, and where are you going to in Colorado.. Unless, you want to start from the state line, from one to another.. then, you might want to look up back roads,, not major interstates also... Best guess, a week or less..... traveling around...... Well first of all we must know that it is about 879.81 miles between Denver and Dallas (of course thats mapquest directions so it would be mainly on highways and interstates). It also depends on the speed your horse is going. If it's full out galloping (some can go up to 50 mph) it could take as little as 17 and 1/2 hours. However if your walking the whole way (3-4 mph) it could take 293.27 hrs or about 12 days. http://www.ultimatehorsesite.com/info/ho... |
