Travel Info Anyone been to Hanging Lake and Maroon Lake in Colorado? How would you compare the 2? Too tough for seniors? Travel Tips I've been to Hanging Lake, but never Maroon Lake. Hanging Lake is spectacular! It's a bit of a climb though if you're not used to that sort of thing. It climbs a little over 1,000 feet in just over a mile. Overall, pretty easy ascent. There is one section, near the top, that climbs some rock, um, 'steps', if you want to call them that. There's a railing, but I wouldn't recommend using it. The best advice I can give is to bring plenty of water and take your time if need be. We saw a lot of people packing in a picnic lunch with them, which was a great idea, we thought. Just remember, whatever you bring in, you need to bring out. I don't recall too many waste receptacles along the way. If you do choose Hanging Lake, make sure you finish the trail by hiking up the last ascent to Spouting Rock. It's beautiful. Take a camera! Others Never been to Maroon Lake. Hanging Lake is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. It may be tough for Seniors, especially out of state. Remember the elevation is high, and gets higher, ie less oxygen. If you're from Colorado, it's not so bad. The hike, however is pretty intense. Along the way, you will discover many people coming "downhill" that will say....."You're almost there". Don't believe them - it takes a LONG time :) If you go and make it to the top......enjoy. It's worth the struggle. Good luck. |
