Breckenridge or Aspen?

Travel Info
I have 2 days at the end of September to spend in either Breckenridge or Aspen. I'd like recommendations on which I should choose. No skiing is required.

Travel Tips
Aspen is SOOOO overrated. I honestly don't see what the fuss is all about. It's expensive, it's smug. The scenery is okay, but I think there are FAR better views in Colorado.

On the other hand, Breckenridge is by far my favorite mountain town. I'd sometime like to retire there! It's a very cultural and artsy type of town. It's backwoods and mountainy while being hip and up-to-date at the same time. There's plenty of shopping that won't break your bank. The scenery is like straight off of a Christmas card. There is a big beautiful mountain smack dab in the center of 'town'. The people are warm and welcoming, never snooty. It's just a fabulous place and I visit it every chance I get.

To me, it is the epitome of what Colorado mountain life is and should be. Source(s): Genuine Colorado Native

Other Travel Tips
As a former resident, I have to recommend Aspen! While there, be sure to take a drive or a cab up Independence Pass to see the majestic Mt. Elbert, highest point in Colorado. You may also want to take a tour of nearby Ashcroft, a former mining town which is now a ghost town. Take a drive through Snowmass, and view the homes of several well known stars.

For an adventure, check with Unicorn or Mountain Balloons, and enjoy a hot air balloon ride through the beautiful countryside. Riding stables abound, but at the moment I can't recall any names.

There are many fine dining establishments. I haven't lived there in over 20 years, but you may want to stop by The Hotel Jerome, Andre's, The Chart House, The Ute City Bank, and an Asian restaurant that I believe was called Hibachi. You cook your own meal right at the table. You might also want to check out the nightlife at Little Nell.

There is a Ute Cemetery nearby, unique shops... You may also wish to visit Maroon Lake, and the Maroon Bells. Named for their color and shape, the Bells are some of the most highly photographed mountains in the world. Oh, just enjoy yourself!! Have a wonderful time.
Definitely Aspen. It's a nicer looking town, easy to park and walk around, the people are VERY friendly, and there are tons of great restaurants to choose from. However, if you find yourself short on money, you might want to go to Breckenridge. They're both expensive little towns, but Apsen is much more expensive than Breckenridge.
I prefer Breckenridge. It is a charming small and affordable town.
If you are snobby and want to overpay for a hotel/condo, go to Aspen. Cocaine capital of Colorado.

If you want something a little more relaxed, try Breck. Its not cheap either, though.
Aspen is more unique and a little hipper, if that's what you're after. Gorgeous scenery like at Maroon Bells and Independence Pass; great bars, restaurants and nightlife. Breck is a fine place, perhaps a little more laid back and touristy. You can find plenty of cheaper accommodations before ski season at either location. I like Aspen better, but there's nothing wrong with Breck either!
