What should we do in Colorado Springs?

Travel Info
We are giong to Colorado in Sept. What are the best things not to miss?

Travel Tips
The #1 must-see in the Springs is Garden of the Gods -- it's gorgeous and free (what more can you ask for?). It depends on what you're looking to do and how much time you have. The Broadmoor is a historic 5-star hotel in the shadow of Cheyenne Mountain, and it's worth a look. Cave of the Winds is impressive and probably 5-10 miles west on US 24. If you just want a scenic drive, go up Gold Camp Road (west of town but south of Hwy 24). If shopping's your gig, check out Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs off Colorado (1 block north of US 24 west of I-25 aka Cimarron). Depending on your interests, you might also be interested in the United States Air Force Academy. It's located on beautiful grounds northwest of town. I've included links to Wikipedia articles on many of these sites.

Also, I've heard September-October is the best time to go up the Pikes Peak cog railway, and I've heard that's an unforgettable experience. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/manitou_spr...

Other Travel Tips
The scenery is very pretty. You could take long scenic drives.
I think there's some ATV'ing over there, too.

I know there's rafting and kayaking, but I never got to go. Camping would be fun over there.

I guess there's more, but I'm not sure, I've only been there once.
I agree that Manito Springs and Garden of the Gods is a must see. There is also a park with Indian Ruins around there also, pretty cool. I forget the name, but if you google indian ruins in the area it will come up. If hiking is your gig, I have the thing for you. Take two days and hike up Pikes Peak on Barr Trail. It is a 13 mile one way hike. You can hike halfway up one day, stay the night at Barr Camp (a hostel, campground on the mountain) at 10,000 feet, get up the next morning and bag a 14'er in the early afternoon. Then, you can take the cog railway down for an easy decent. If you take the cog down, you have to purchase a ticket in advance, so do not miss the train or you are stuck up there (give yourself plenty of time to catch the train). Or, if you do not want to go all the way up, a night at Barr Camp is worth it. If you do this, make sure you do it toward the end of your trip so you are acclimated to the higher altitude, because at about 12,000 feet you will start to feel the lack of oxygen!

Have a fun trip, and tell me how it goes.

Go to Manitou Springs right up the road and ride the cog railroad up to the top of Pikes Peak. Then go to the dinner show at the Iron Springs Playhouse right near the RR station. Next morning drive up to Cripple Creek, an old mining town. Have lunch and try your luck at the casinos. Don't forget to drive through the Garden of the Gods before you leave.
There are many interesting things to do while in Colorado Springs:
Garden of the Gods
Cave of the Winds
The North Pole (if you have children)
Manitou Springs
The Cog Railroad (goes up Pikes Peak)
Royal Gorge
