Travel Info Can someone tell me what Denver is like? Travel Tips I'm amazed at the poor quality of many of these answers, especially those that come from people who have actually lived in Denver. I was born in the Denver metro area and have lived there most of my life. - "Hot" is a poor way to describe Denver's climate. Denver is a good example of a semiarid climate. Winters can range from very cold (below zero on occasion) to pleasant (it's not unusual to have 60 degree days in the heart of winter). It does snow sometimes, and the snowfall is sometimes significant. Springs can be rainy, but it depends greatly on whether or not it's a drought year. Summers are generally characterized by clear mornings, afternoon thunderstorms, and daytime highs around 90. Fall can be hot or cold, sunny or snowy, and it varies a lot year to year. - Denver does have a hockey team. The Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001. Denver is a great place for sports. In no particular order, the professional sports teams in Denver are: Denver Nuggets (basketball), Colorado Rockies (baseball), Colorado Avalanche (hockey), Denver Broncos (football). We also have soccer and lacrosse teams. - The traffic is comparable to any other city its size. - Economy: the Denver economy is traditionally based on mining and its central geographic location, but in more recent years, it's also fueled by technology. - Recreation: aside from sports, bars, shopping, and all of the other typical urban recreational activities, the Rocky Mountains are a significant source for recreation. Skiing, rafting, kayaking, boating, waterskiing, hiking, camping, backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and just about anything else you can think of is available in the mountains west of Denver. - Geography: Denver is located on the plains east of the Rocky Mountains. The Colorado Rocky Mountains form a north-south line down the west-central part of the state, with agricultural land to either side. Most of Colorado's population is centered along I-25, the north-south highway that runs parallel to the Rockies just east of them. - Demographics: it's plain false to say that most people in Denver are Hispanic. The city of Denver is 51.9% white. - Crime: Like any other city, Denver has crime, though I think it would be foolish to say it's isolated to the "infamous west side" (which I'd never heard of before). Other Travel Tips Great city. Mile high, with sweeping purple and snowy mountains in the west. Close skiiing -but most snow falls in the mountains, not in Denver. Lite rail is being extended to provide more train commuter access. Huge airport (DIA), very nice, but a little off in the boondocks. Lots of art, sports, events, close to downtown. HOT, crowded, lots of cool places to see but way to many people .... Denver is a nice city to live in. Climate is nice. Rarely snows. Mountains are beautiful. If they only had a hockey team.... Lived there for 3 years. Alot to do in Denver. Museums, Football Stadium, Resturants, Thearter, parks. Nice city...But I wouldn't want to live there. Too much city life. It would be better to live in the country. |
