Where is the best part of Colorado for me and my wife to move to?

Travel Info
Ok, I'm currently in college in Tennessee and am trying to get on with the colorado state troopers. Pay is around 50,000 for a trooper. Not sure yet what my wife would do or what her income would be. I would love to look out the window and see mountains. Keep in mind that I'm not use to harsh winters at all but I am sick of the hot humidity here in middle TN.

Where would be the best places to move to with great southern hospitality, good churches, and great houses for a family income around let's say $70,000?

Travel Tips
I think you would like littleton. It is a suburb of denver, about 20 minutes away from downtown. It has many churches and is a very nice town.

The mountains here are beautiful, espescially when it snows.

Our winters are a mixed bag. Last christmas, it was 60 outside. 3 weeks later I had 5 feet of snow on my driveway!!

Our summers are hot, but we have little humidity so it is comfortable.

Houses in littleton are generally affordable.

We have a commuter train line called "light rail" This train will take you to many fun attractions in denver. It has a stop at Six Flags, The aquarium, Bronco Stadium, The pepsi center, 16th street mall and more. There are 3 train stops in littleton.

I hope you enjoy colorado.

HI Troop...... hope we never run into each other.... lol.....no pun intended....

I am from the state of Katrina,,, and know what you mean about the heat.....

I worked in Grand Junction for a couple of years and traveled pretty much all over the state..... I think you might want to wait and see if you get enrolled,, then decide where to move ,, because they will send you to where they want you ......after you pass the academy..... (thats usual procedure in all states).....
I say this to save you from wasteing time and money....
I have college friends all over Colorado,, so there are lots of Southerners there..... so you will not feel alone.....

In Ouray.. kind of South of Grand Junction... there are more than 20 famlies from Mississippi that live and work there,, it is a artisan town,, and the Swiss Alps of America... go see it sometime... its beautiful......they have hot spring swimming pools.... and watch out for the Elk... they will mess your day up.. or night,,, if you hit one......

I have more college friends near Denver... they love it.. so,,, man i kind of envy you......its expensive to live there,,, but it is worth it.... great schools and wonderful scenery and people.... you will not regret the move.....

Hope this helps....

good luck,,, and lets be careful out there.......
As someone who has lived in Colorado all his life (almost 24) I would consider Northern Colorado, particulary Fort Collins because there is a nearby state patrol dispatch on I-25 and it's a great town for job opportunity for it's size. It was actually rated one of the best places to live in the United States. The town is relatively friendly and essential services remain close by. The town also has a nice downtown with various restaurants.

As for harsh winters, the weather here remains rather consistant and not a lot of rain or snow, though there is a wide range of temperatures for highs on Colorado's front range, from the upper 90s at times in the summer to the lower singles at times in the winter.

Overall, I like living in Fort Collins, I have been here for a year and enjoy it.
Go to the San Juan Mountains. Durango is a great place to live. You'll love the humidity. Elevation is around 6,000 feet. I would avoid the big cities along the eastern slope because I don't like big cities. I hope you like snow. My favorite town is Ouray which is north of Silverton and Durango. On your pay, home life in Durango should be great.
Fort Collins is beautiful! I live in Bucks, County PA but I hope to move out to Fort Collins or Jackson Wy when I eventually retire.
My husband and I are searching too, and I'm a So Cal Gal. Some snow but not tons would be nice. We just did a driving tour and had a wonderful time. We fell in love with the Salida area, it is like a warm small town atmosphere and has the old town area done great with shops and galleries etc. Its in their so called Banana Belt so its warmer and its beautiful.( Also rafting on the Arkansas river was so fun and they have festivals for that and music etc and yes, beautiful views of mts and close to ski areas but not in them) We are looking at property and it was very decent and lovely. We have 2 children and all the usual questions on schools too- Durango and Pagosa Springs too- very nice. They all have websites- so start your fingers walking, you can get prices, maps, demographics and realitors...Good luck!
