Help! I don't know how to dress to snowboard.....? |
Travel Info I am from Florida and am going to MT, WY to snowboard in January. What do you wear? What do you bring with you? I have never been. Thanks! Travel Tips wow i am so excited for you. i live on co and recently learned to snowboard. i love it. i hope you get several days to be on the mountain because it takes atleast 3 solid days to make what you learn stick it your brain. and if possible dont try to teach yourself. take a classs or hire an instructor. you will learn so much faster and reduce injuries. so okay clothes. my number one rule is cotton is the enemy! it gets wet and stays wet and just gets cold and soggy. so eliminate everything cotton, unless you dont have anything else. your bottom layer should some sort of long johns or like someone else mentioned under armour. pants should be clingy but super easy for you to move all around in. this is the most important layer for it to not be cotton. it should be super comfortable but very warm and probably snug fitting. clothes that say breathable or sweat wicking are great. lycra and polyester are good materials. I usually had a running tshirt with a light long sleeves over shirt (all polyester) then on the bottom i wore tight lycra running pants made by nike (cold weather running clothes are always good for snowboarding because they keep the sweat from making you cold) special pants are made to go under your clothes when snowboarding and they have really padded butts for when you fall. they are awesome and worth investing in if you can) bike shorts or regular non cotton athletic shorts are also good as an extra layer because your butt will be the wettest and coldest part of your body. so by now you should have atleast one warm long sleeve top and warm pants. if you have a good pair of snow pants then you are probably done as far as bottoms go but if your snowpants are just so so then you are going to want to layer another pair of pants (some sort of warm but light execise pants) before the snow pants. on top you will need a sweater ( cotton could be okay on this layer if all you have is hoodie type sweaters) then a good winter coat. scarf is optional. it may get in the way if it is flopping around. I usually wear two layers of gloves. the first is just a light small pair and the top are the big thick and bulky ones. an hat is important or atleast a good hood from your jacket (actully i like hood better because they keep snow from getting in your coat and going down your back when you fall) i suggest tucking in all your tops to bottoms to stay warmer and keep the snow out. remember to bring sun glasses and sun screen (some people underestimate the strength of the sun combined with the reflextion of the snow. you could burn your face and your eyes much faster than usual) if you get hot you can always take off a layer or too. it is better to be over prepared than underprepared. one more tip: snowboarding is a serious sport in terms that you really need to be in shape to do your best. my legs are strong from running and other exercised and i thought i would be fine but they were so achy after my first day of boarding so try fitting a few lunges in each day and work on your balance on a stability ball. bring money for water and snacks afterwards you will probably be hungry. and cough drops for the cold air and high altitude. it not a good idea to have anything valuble in your pockets (i have a friend you had his ipod in his pocket and he fell on it and it broke) if you do need your cell phone or something with you then try to keep it in a pocket near your stomach because you usually dont fall directly on your stomach (butt, knees, and hands are what you will be falling on most) so sorry this is long but i hope it helps you. i have plenty of stories, experiences, and such regarding first time boarding so for any more question just contact me. i am happy tp help in whatever ways i can. Others Dress in loose layers, two payers of socks. and bring extra gloves.you want a head band that covers your ears.be careful and have fun.go online and look for underarmour...thats your best bet...get the longjohns too. snow pants, 2 pairs of warm thick socks, longsleeved shirt, warm coat, sweat pants probably, and a hat that will keep your ears warm....and gloves! |
