Travel Tips
LoDo (Lower Downtown Denver), formerly a derelict warehouse district, is now a trendy loft apartment and entertainment district. LoDo has become somewhat pricey in recent years. You may also want to consider some other nice neighborhoods near downtown, for instance, Capital Hill, Highlands, Curtis Park, etc. Source(s): LoDo at http://www.lodo.org/

Other Travel Tips
i hate colorado. lived there for 13 yrs. very boring. so boring all i did was work, drugs, alcohol. if you like that, knock yourself out
I love Denver, lived there for 10 years, and currently live in New York City. I love it so much I will be moving back when I am done with my degree in May.

It depends on what you are looking for... the city has many different neighborhood with a variety of price ranges, but all are great. Here are some of my suggestions.

Part of the reason I assume you are moving there is to escape the pace of life here in the East. The city is an outdoor city, it is teeming with bike paths and parks. Also, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with rent prices, I certainly was-- my large studio cost 450 dollars-- everything included.

Capitol Hill is a nice neighborhood. It is diverse, it is also the gay neighborhood (don't think Chelsea). It is full of old mansions converted into apartments and newer condos. It has a neighborhood feel and everything is in walking distance.

The Highlands is my favorite place in the city. It has great little places to eat and drink, it is a little further from downtown, and has more of a town feel (think lower east side but quaint and safe)

There is Cherry Creek, which is a bit uppity for my taste-- it is one of the wealthier neighborhoods in the city, great little downtown and near a mall (if that is your thing) It is also probably expensive as compared to everything else.

I don't like LODO for one reason, traffic. On weekends it is way too crowded. It is an early 20's scene, and very fratty. I love to go down there for a beer, it has some great resturants, i just like leaving an heading back to a quiet neighborhood so i can sleep off my hangover...

I would guess, if you like LODO alot, the neighborhood for you is around Platte and 15th street. It is urban, full of parkland, right on the Platte River and has great views of downtown.

No matter where you live, you need a car (in my opinion) keep that in mind, some neighborhoods are very difficult to park in.

good luck!
Depends in part where you'll be working or going to school, but I highly recommend the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Parts of it are close enough you could walk to downtown, and bus service through it is quite good. (I disagree that you have to have a car. My parents barely used theirs the last few years they were working. They could take the bus or walk to their jobs and a supermarket was just down the road.) Lived there almost 5 years and loved the diversity of people--all races and ages, rich and poor, gay and straight, singles and families. Also the parks, street trees and Victorian architecture--which you'll miss in the inner city itself. Cap Hill goes through economic ups and downs. I think at the moment it's a renter's market.
Avoid the 'burbs, especially if you're a progressive, gun-fearing person. After we'd moved and I heard there'd been a shooting in a school in Colorado, I just knew it wouldn't have been in a city school. Besides, Denver, compared to East Coast cities, is quite liveable.
Lived in Denver almost 5 years, parents still there.
