Anyone know anything about wroking cruises or freighter trips?

I have a friend who wants to go to australia from the usa but money is tight and was thinking of going on a freighter ship as a deckhand or something. Anybody have any ideas?

To be a deckhand you need a stcw certificate. You may beable to work in the galley washing and cleaning up.

Typically when you work on a cruise ship, you sign a contract. Typically this can be between 6-10 months. You don't really get a day off.
