My husband and I will be moving to Colorado from Tennessee next year... any tips would be great!?!? |
Travel Info My husband is in the first phases of the lengthy process of becoming a Colorado State Patrol Officer. We currently live in Middle Tennessee and have one small dog. We will be bringing the bare minimums with us in the move as in we are going to be purchasing new bedroom furniture as well as living room furniture so I am just looking for any tips or information to make the move as smooth as possible. From brief research it will be approximately 18-20 hour drive so it would be split into a couple of days. Please offer any tips/info that you could have. THanks! I'm new to this so I'm sorry if this is very lengthy... :) Travel Tips Check with renting a Penske truck to move, they are cheaper than U-Haul or Ryder. Don't hire a professional mover they are a rip off. Go to your local newspaper office and see if you can get the endrolls of newspaper, that way you will have clean packing paper, these rolls are usually free, and make excellent packing paper, no newspaper ink to contend with. Go to Walmart Pharmacy and ask them to save their Vial boxes and the boxes that their drug orders come in for you, they are ideal for packing, be sure to pick them up at least every other day as they will dispose of the boxes if you don't pick them up. Anything that you don't use on a daily bases start packing now. Keep out just what you need, a couple of sets of sheets and blankets, pack all others and be sure to write on the top and side of boxes what room they go in and a basic description of what is in the boxes. This will save you alot of time when unpacking. When you are ready to make the move be sure to pack a tote with a couple of rolls of toilet paper and any cleaning supplies that you will need when you get to your new home, in this tote also put your tooth brushes and toothpaste and deoderent in a zip lock bag so you will have them handy. Pack your suitcases with a few changes of clothes until you get the rest of the clothes unpacked. Also towels and wash rags and bath soap & shampoo. When you get to your new house unpack the kitchen and bedrooms first Hope this helps you out, we just moved from Indiana to Tennesse three years ago. Good Luck with your move,,,,be prepared for higher property taxes and get some snow skis! Others Trade in them cowboy boots for some skis! Enjoy the move. :) Get a snow shovel. Your eyes will be amazed at the rocky mountains! S' all good, good luck. Oh traveling through Nebraska is boring. DON'T GO!!!!! Doesn't your blood run ORANGE????? You can't do it, you just can't do it...... LOL good luck on the move and the career. Gonna miss a fellow Tennesseean................ :o) Congratulations on the move. You'll love Colorado. I lived there for 24 years and still have several relatives in Colorado Springs and Fort Collins. You're correct to split the move into 2 days. Make sure you take a cooler filled with water and your favorite drinks so you don't have to stop so often, and make sure you pack a bowl for the dog so he or she can drink too. I'm not sure what kind of advice or tips you're looking for. Just have fun and don't rush getting there. You may want to plan ahead and decide where you'll stop for the night and call hotels in that area to make sure they are pet friendly. Good luck! Be prepared for more expensive housing costs in CO |
