What are flight restrictions on surgical metal plates? |
Travel Info metal plates and pins installed after surgery Travel Tips I actually have bolts and screws holding my spine together after a surgery I had, and my doctor gave me a small copy of my x-ray to carry with me to airports and court houses where I might be going through metal detectors... Maybe you can get your doctor to get you a small hand held copy for any trip you may be taking... That way it is not just your word at the metal detectors stand... You will have proof... Others I have no idea but I have my nipples pierced and when I went through the metal detectors they beeped.... I pointed to my chest ...I was going to say what it was...but they waved me through Airlines allow implanted patients to travel, including those with pacemakers, etc. However it simplifies matters if you have a letter from your surgeon that indeed such a procedure was performed (I advise having that letter sealed in plastic and carry it with your other documents). However, they will still perform a standard scan with a hand-held detector. However at foreign airports, they might even require a strip-search for security reasons. I have a metal plate and screws in my arm and have never had a problem. |
