Leavin' on a jet plane stat in the AM. Best ways to conquer fear of flying please? |
Travel Info Were is the safest place to sit on the plane? What to do if you think you are going to hurl and can't find the barf bag? Travel Tips Intellectually you can tell yourself that flying in a plane is safer than driving your car, thousands of people do it evey day and are just fine, commercial airline crashes are very rare relative to the number of flights that take place (I would say on the order of 1 per year out of hundreds of thousands or maybe millions of flights). I like to sit over the wing or in an exit row as this gives me peace of mind, although I have no evidence that this is any safer. Some people take benzodiazepines when they travel because these drugs have hypnotic, sedative, or anxiolytic activities. You should not take these unless they are prescribed by your doctor since they carry the risk of short term memory loss. Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip! Others Traveling hundreds of miles an hour with thousands of gallons of jet fuel behind you, clearly if the plane crashes the people in the middle will be safest, They will die quick, but they are the safest. Oh wait, you said AM then I would sit in the front, Still a quick death but in the AM that's the safest place The best thing is to bring something to distract you - DVD player, book, what ever will keep your mind off the flying. All the spots on the plan are safe, but you might feel more comfortable sitting by the window. Good luck! Medication and alcohol (in moderation) help. As you are going to the airport, notice all the bumps you feel (and usually ignore). The road to the airport is usually much rougher than the ride on the airplane. Statistics might help. Each day, there are nearly 10,000 flights in the air. How many crashes did you hear about recently? Not any I suspect. Flying is very safe. In fact, it is more dangerous driving to the airport than the actual flight. Hang in there. Mike Honeycutt I like a window seat and don't focus on the fear. I focus on where I am going and who I'm going to see. I usually take a nap or read a good book. Bring headphones, if you have any, so that you can listen to the movie and not pay $5 for their cheap little ones. Bring fruit to eat instead of their boring processed food, if you get any at all. I usually bring a Togo's sandwich if it's a long flight. As far as hurling goes, bring a bag if you are that worried about it. Cover all of your bases. Mint gum helps with ears popping and the queasy stomach. Dramamine is good for that too! Good Luck! "Leaving on a jet plane, I don't know when I'll be back again...." I like that song...LOL Don't eat before you get on the plane or try puking before you leave, that way, your on empty!! Oh wait...they have these bands that you wear on your wrists to fight nausea, you can find them in the pharmacy department....they are called "sea bands" Try and set as close the cockpit as possible. Try and get a window seat too. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to locate the "barf bag" before take-off. Depending of long the flight is, ask your doctor for a sedative to take to help with the anxiety. Enjoy your trip! |
