Travel Info My husband may be transfered to Walsenburg, Colorado. What is it like? Travel Tips Ah..., the city of my birth. Walsenburg isn't much. The town is overall very depressed. There isn't much in the way of commerce down there to bring a lot of money to the city. The housing is inexpensive for the most part. I don't know what you're used to but if you're from the suburbs and used to living in a new development, you'll be in for a shock. The up side is that Southern Colorado is a great place to be. It's beautiful and the people are friendly. Things move a lot more slowly then in the city. I was born in Walsenburg and lived in Rye which is about 28 miles north. Sure wish I was back there instead of in this Denver pit of a place. Others only been through it a couple of times. cute little town in southern part of the state about 6000 people. http://sangres.com/places/walsenburg.htm... Never heard of it? There are actually two or three pretty good restaurants in Walsenburg. Corrinne's Mexican and Alyses Restaurant. You are not too far from Cuchara, the first ski area in colorado (at least from a Texan's perspective). There are some neat places to live over around this ski area if it's not too pricey for you - nicer scenery and a 30 minute drive from Walsenburg. It's a comfortable drive to Pueblo for a sorta-big city and the Springs and Denver are close enough to take in the shops. The town is fairly heavily Hispanic. If you get the chance to live in Colorado, take it! There is so much around you to do... Small town (population 4,000) in Southern Colorado. Not far from the Interstate, but very much off the beaten path. Not prosperous. The upside is that you have few of the problems of a big city. The downside is that there's not much there. Some pretty country nearby, not overrun by tourists, most of whom don't go to Southern Colorado. If Walsenburg is not for you, you could take a look at Pueblo, population 100,000, about 50 miles away. Your husband could decide if it's worth an hour commute each way. Ive never heard of it and I have lived in colorado for many years, if that is any indication. No man's land....by daughter's dads family makes up about 80% of the population. Hahahaha!!! I would NEVER live there. |
