Can anyone tell me about Aurora, Colorado? |
Travel Info I was thinking about interviewing with a school district there. How is the weather? What kind of community is it? Travel Tips I grew up in Aurora and attended the Cherry Creek School District schools- which are consistently good, some of the best in the State. There are also Aurora Public Schools. Aurora is actually very big, maybe the 4th biggest city in Colorado- there are some tougher areas but also some very affluent areas as well. There are areas that are very diverse- (usually as you get North and closer to Denver) Most of Aurora doesn't have much of an identity all in it's own, there is an old part of Aurora that is undergoing some revitalization- but mostly it's just a big suburb of Denver. But Denver is a GREAT city. The weather in the Denver area is some of the best! Sun almost every day! Sure, it snows, but most of the time the sun comes out and melts the snow within a day or two. Where else will you get random 60 degree days after a big snowfall? My advice? Go to the interview, rent a car and drive around Aurora, Denver, Centennial, Littleton and get a feel for the place. Don't forget your sunglasses! Source(s): I grew up there, but now I live in Madison, Wisconsin. Damn it's cold here! Other Travel Tips What do you teach? Funny I am looking into teaching in CO too and want really nice weather! Aurora is a fine community and it is like a suburb within Denver the weather is like snow one day and clear the next but it does get some good snowfall in the winter, in the summer it is much like anywhere else hot but you can go just a little outside of Denver up in the mountains and be cool all in all it is a good place The Denver area is nice. I live in Colorado Springs which is South of Denver so we get pretty much the same weather. The winter can be blizzardy at times but all in all it's nice. This is the first real winter in a few years (we've been in a drought) so it's kind of a shock to see all the snow lol. But as one poster said, it's snowy one day and clear the next. It just depends on the day i guess. The summer is nice. It can get hot but that's because we are closer to the sun. All in all I like Colorado and it's a nice place to live. Colorado is great. I lived there for 2 years. Most people have the perception that it snows there all the time. This winter was lousy, but they usually have 300 days of sunshine per year. Aurora is a suburb of Colorado, but kind of rough around the edges. Denver, Highlands Ranch, Colorado Springs or Boulder are nicer areas. Good luck! Aurora is a very large suburb of Denver. It's the 3rd largest city in Colorado, after Denver and Colorado Springs. It's a real mixture. Some parts are nice, others are pretty poor neighborhoods.
